View Full Version : mississippi walleye bite in Iowa
I know the recent warm weather has really raised the water temp. and my trips to guttenburg in 2000 have only produced small fish. Is the pre-spawn bite over/slowing/peaking. How is the water clairity and the fishing in the area?

Was at Guttenberg yesterday. Water is fairly murky. We got a bunch of small sauger, one 22" eye. Saw people boat some nice eyes - one about 8 lbs and another 5+. I hear the bigger fish are coming at night. Will still see mostly small fish, but the bigger ones are there.
heard the fish at gutt are dropping back from dam the better fish are down stream a little the guys i know use mostly hair jigs, i think the bigger fish like a bulkier bait, their keeping good eaters 15-20 and releasing the bigger fish, I caught my biggest eye at gutt and am happy to say shes still there!

My son and I fished the river Sat.,Sun.& Mon. so here is a brief report. Sat. we fished pool 9
below Genoa and had the best luck , 15 keepers
between 15 and 18". Fished from just below the dam
downstream about 5 miles. Just as many keepers
down river as by the dam. Sunday we fished pool 8
in the Brownesville area, worst day , 2 fish and
lightning and wind. Monday we fished pool 11 at
Guttenberg, 5 fish , only 1 keeper near the dam,
the rest at various closing and wing dams. All 3 days the key seemed to keep moving to find the eaters. We did not catch any very large walleyes
but we had a great time trying.
