As the season progresses the need for a reliable weather site on the internet to plan, or not to plan, a trip is becoming essential.
The weather can become very serious quickly these next few months.
I wanted to pass on this web site to those of us on here from Wisconsin to Michigan and in between.
Take a look at this...I hope it helps you. Let me know.

No argument from me on the importance of weather. I will say, however, that in some 30 years of fishing Lake Michigan I would have been out perhaps half as much if the decision was based on weather reports. Sea Grant Institute offered a good weather course for boaters many years ago -- and, it helped me watch and learn. Even at best, no one can fish regularly on Lake Michigan without some time getting caught in a storm. You need two things -- how to read weather and how to handle your vessel in it. I cringe every time I see unsuitable craft miles from shore, blissfully trolling along. It's a lake that demands respect.

In the southern basin of Lake Michigan, you can monitor constant weather info on Ch. 1 and 2 on marine band radio (VHF). Most is standard stuff from headquarters in Kansas City, but local (Chgo & Milw area) info will be given in advance of severe weather (usually). I'll repeat -- the best bet is to learn how to watch for developing weather, it's no guarantee, but it's a leg up.
