Looking for the eagle claw model SF400ALT. This is the one rated for 6 - 10 lb. line in an 8 1/2 ft. downrigger rod. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys and gals.

The last time I was at Cabela's in Dundee MI, they had a pretty fair selection of the SF type rods. You can also get them from Captain Chuck's Great Lakes Tackle 888-227-8248. He has a website. www.capt-chuck.com

Tom,
I too have been looking at that same rod. Needing a downrigger rod that will take a lot of "bend" and use light line for trout at a lake in Kentucky that i fish. I called the manufacturer and they quoted me a price of over 40 bucks, which is more then you can buy other models of the starfire rod from a retailer. I have not been able to find that particular model anywhere on the net. (havent tried capt. chuck's yet). I suggest contacting a sporting goods store that sells other eagle claw rods and see if they can special order. I'd be very interested to see how ya make out. keep me posted. boatnut@onebox.com
thanks!

Lakeside Fishing Shop here in S.E. Michigan carries them. I believe that you can order them online at:

Tom,
I found the model 407 which is 8'-0" , rated "light" , for 6-10 lb line at our local Sportsmart Store. price was 35 bucks. According to eagle claws website, the model 400A is an 8'6", "medium" rod, rated 12-20 lb. The 400 model is 7'6" "medium light" and rated 8-12 lbs.
email me at boatnut@onebox.com if any questions.

The rod seats on this particular rod model were not big enough to accomodate either the daiwa or new shakespeare line counters. I had to "modify" them with a Dremel tool so they would work. Ya might wanna check this out before you leave the store with one.

Cabela's Dundee had the SF407 for $29.95 and they had a bunch of them. I found them locally (Dayton, Ohio) for the same price, but they only had one.
