Getting ready to order my first shanty.
I think I am going with the Clam 5600 also like the
Shappell -3 man.
What do all you seasoned ice fisherman think.
I want a shanty that has a complete floor.
Also I like the mag 300 power ice drill (8') whats your thoughts on this one also.
thanks
I have a Lazer 3000 mag 10". I really wish I had a lighter unit. I think 2hp would be enough. It is a little on the heavy side for being mobile. I really dont need a 10" hole either. 8" would be enough for me.

I have a Otter lodge shack 3 man works excellent, pops up and down in two minutes. 2 horse laser mag express is the way to go! Oh ya I have only seen the otter shacks at cabelas. Good luck
fish .. i have the exact setup your asking about .. lazer mag is the only auger out there as far as im conserned ..will pull itself through the ice .. the clam 5600 is another story .. although i like the layout and bottom floor id give anything for some sort of improvement in there pole design .. i have to fight to get my poles extended up or down .. i started carrying a hammer to beat them both up and down .. one side will wedge every time .. in the prosses of lifting or lowering ive ended up ripping the canvas .. in my opinion i wouldnt buy another one untill they do something about this problum .. im not one to bash anything .. but this has really upset me while trying to take everything down after fishing and fight the darn thing when its 20 below ..just my opinion ..
I've owned a 2 hp Jiffy with an 8" blade for about 10 years now. It's not the fastest auger, but it always starts, always runs, and it's light enough to carry across the lake on my shoulder if I want to. I'm not a big guy, and the times that I've used other guys 3hp augers, I was about ready to fall over after drilling 10 holes.

I've had a Sheppell "minuteman" for 8 years, wooden floor, I love it. Just bought a DX3000 with a plastic floor, not as heavy, two large windows, I love it. Set's up in a minute. The key to setting up is to keep an open door into the wind, that way the wind "pops" open the canvas for you and you walk right in.
Fish..I just had my 2hp jiffy 8in fishing yesterday. My buddy has the 3hp 8in we put them on the ice an started cutting, mine cut just as fast.He picked up mine, said wish I had the 2hp.(its lighter) Fishhouse==Ck out the otterskin.Top of the line.

3 h.p. Jiffy (Model 31) makes good holes (10"), big biceps, and bad back! (I own one. . .)

I PURCAHSED A FISH TRAP VOYAGER APPX A MONTH AGO. IT HAS PROVED TO BE AWESOME. SEATS THREE, A TON OF ROOM FOR ALL THE GEAR I NEED TO DRAG ALONG AS WELL AS MY KIDS. IT IS A BIT HEAVY WHEN LOADED, BUT CAN BE PULLED OK. I USE AN ATV WHEN POSSIBLE AND ADDED A HITCH. PRETTY SLICK.
ON THE AUGER, I HAVE A JIFFY LEGEND 8 INCH AND HAVE USED IT FOR THREE YEARS NOW. VERY HAPPY WITH IT ALSO.
HOPE THIS HELPS YOU OUT AND GOOD LUCK FISHING.

Take a close look at the Frabill Speed Shak. I have the Clam 5600 and my brother-in-law has the SS. It really sets up quickly and easily. Not that I have any complaints about my Clam, its just that if I were doing it all over again.....
I have a Jiffy 3hp, 10". Some times I wish I had a 2hp, 8". If you Laker and Northern fish, get a 10". Jiffy and Strike Master both have the same motor. Different gearing and augers. You won't go wrong with either.
