View Full Version : Zercom LPG 2000
I am concidering one of these units. I also want to use this unit as a depth finder. Can anyone tell me how this unit works in lo light to dark situations as I do a lot of fishing / navigating in the evening hours.
With Lake Erie water levels low I need something accurate.
Also, how does this unit perform in searching for fish at speeds of approx 10-15 mph.
Thank You for your comments pro and con.
Before you buy make sure to check out the new Lowrance Units. Not to say one is better then the other but they look like they may have more pixals and better unit.
The one down side I have heard from friends that have the Zercom is the bracket is poor. The transducer keeps flipping up. they have tried everything to keep it down without success. They like the Zercom but hate to stick their had into the cold water.
One of the better units out there. Mine's on a Triton with a 225 Optimax, and no problems with the transducer kicking up. The definition and detail is good. Speeds up to around 35 mph are no problem. Good luck.
We were given an LPG 2000 to use by one of our sponsors, and we loved it from day one! Needless to say, we are not giving it back, this one is sold. We already had a Lowrance LMS 350A as our main unit, and a small Eagle mounted on the bow-mounted trolling motor. So we mounted the Zercom in the back of the boat to watch while trolling. This unit sees things the others don't. If there's marks on the Zercom, you're over fish! You can even watch your 1/2 ounce jig go up and down on the screen! Because this unit started out as a loaner, we didn't want to drill any new holes; so we are shooting through the hull and still getting excellent readings. The only problem we encountered, is that we out run it at about 40mph. But below that, it can't be beat. We have yet to see the new Lowrance X15 units in action, they are supposed to be something else, but also come w/ a big price tag as well.( Not that the Zercom is a cheap unit either)But after using this unit for a whole season we were greatly impressed, and I think you would be quite satisfied.
Well, good luck and good fishin'!
