While out today, the wind was blowin around 30mph. I have a clam 6800. Well after getting in slushed in and fishing for a few minutes the wind caught it and away we went. Im trying to figure out how to hold it down, there is no snow on the lakes, just smooth ice from our 50 degree temps as of late. Thanks, Doc

When I store my power auger by drilling a hole halfway through the ice, I then tie my (mobile in the wind) Frabill to the auger flites.
You can also drill partway through the ice and use anchors to tie down your slippery-bottomed shelter. Anchors can be made from rebar. Cut them a little longer than the diameter of your hole, and wedge them between the sides of the hole. Tie to the jammed rebar.

Don't know how thick the ice is there, but here, we drill clear thru. We tie a cord around the middle of a stick or "1-by" (about 16" - 24" long or so),and then launch the
stick down the hole and give it an angle, so it floats upsideways and is crossways up against the bottom of the ice. Tighten up your cords (bale twine works ok and is cheap) and you will not be getting blown away. If cold ..the holes freeze over, of course. If so, just cut the twine, and leave the stick.
This won't work on really thick ice...you can't get the stick to go down well enough.

Get some concrete forming nails (the double headed ones) and drive them though the bottom of your shelter at the flat spots. You can reuse the holes. This should keep it in place. When you want to move just pull them out. Sounds crude, but it works....

If you drive on the ice; the simple thing to do is to hang your tow rope over the ball of your bumper hitch.

Tough for the wind to move a 2000 lb car or truck, and since you face the car into the wind, you have your ice shack in the lee of your car. Much less wind gets to your shelter.

Take care

I have a pair of screws that are sold by Frabil I think. They are about 6" long and have a very coarse thread that goes right in to the ice and holds my portable in place no matter how much wind.
