Mostly depends on the size of water you fish. I would think that for almost all scenarios that would be enough. Also depends on if you will be using it for river trolling also. If the water is high that may not be enough but I still think you would be ok.

It'l be fine. I use a 9.9 on my 1775 and have never needed to use it past half throttle.
