To be really simple with an answer, Leadcore is a great presentation when you are following contours and snap weights work best searching open water where the fish could be several feet one way or the other in the water column. From there you could get real technical and I am sure other posts will but this gives you an idea of which you need for your type of fishing. You will probably end up like the rest of us with both.
Like Chairman said lead is good on contours because the large diameter keeps it tracking the boat around curves. Snap weights are good for open water because they concentrate the weight at one point. This gives you the ability to create quicker verticle swim by placing the weight closer to the lure (as close as 6' sometimes) or slower verticle swim by moving it farther away( as much as 100'). Yea I know everyone talks about 50/50 method, but there are other ways to use the tool. knowing when and where to use them is 3/4 the problem.
Incidently, Chairman is Mr. Bruce DeShano. They gentleman who gave us snap weights. Is this a great site or what!!!
