They have become more of a collector's item than a tool to depend on. There are a lot of parts in there that just aren't made anymore. I've read that the motor that spins the dial is the same that was (note: was!) used in many reel-to-reel tape decks. There is a circuit device called an exciter that's out of production. That's what it turning my old Lowrance flasher's case into a housing for a clock works.
If you must have a flasher, consider a Vexilar, or one of its contemporary competitors. Personally, I'm not impressed with the lcd "flashers", I prefer the led display of the Vexilar.

The Green boxes were advanced for their time, but today, they aren't even close. The post earlier about parts, is very true. I had one about 5 years ago, and tried to find parts and even Lowrance couldn't find any for me.
I would suggest an inexpensive flasher over a LCD unit. I see in the Spring Cabelas catalog they offer a portable Pro Flasher from Humminbird @ $109.99. Check it out, this is not a bad flasher. If you are interested in a LCD unit Reeds sells an Eagle Strata 128 Portable for $164.99 w/free shipping, this is not a bad portable unit for the money. They also have the Eagle Fish I.D. Portable for $139.99 this unit is a little less of a unit than the Strata.
Good Luck on your search,
