I have used gas in lanterns that were not duel fuel and have not had any problems. What is differant between the duel fuel and the regular lantern.

I'm also curious about that, I have a friend that uses premium and his lantern seems to glow brighter. I've heard that maybe burning different fuel can cause gumming up and cause parts needing to be repaced, and maybe some kind of danger ( Blow-up?) good question.

The dual fuel lanterns can burn pump gas. I tried 87 octane with mine and it didn't work very well so I went back to Coleman fuel. Think you need to burn premium. I really need to straighten that out because even 93 octane is much cheaper that Coleman fuel.

I had a friend that used gasoline in his coleman lanter that was not a dual fuel and it worked fine.
I had an old lantern that was borrowed so when the guy retired I gave it back because he started fishing again. It worked great and I never used gasoline in it.

So I bought a dual fuel and using a coleman fuel can I filled with premium.
About the second fill of the tank the generator plugged and would not unplug with the cleaner which is only turn lantern off then on again until pluggage is cleared. There is a fine wire that is on a cam so when you turn lantern off it rotates cam and pokes the wire through the orifice in the tip of the generator.
So I took it apart to see the problem and the cleaner wire was scrambled and the tip was plugged with something hard.
I have had numerous problems with the pump the on off dial valve headache after headache. Blew the mantles off a couple times with coleman fuel. I don't use premium no more but that was not the problem. I don't know if I got a lemon or what but I distrust it so much that I went to electric lights in the house.
It's easier and you don't have a big shadow under the light from the base also I think Iv'e put about 40$ worth of mantles on it since I had it. I keep it in a case in a fiver with foam around the case and still end up replacing them every other fishing trip. If you snowmobile or pull the sled carry the lantern in your hand because they break much to easily.

I won't quit using it but not for fishing anymore unless it's out on the open ice and I'm going real light without a house.

I know that some people have great luck with them but not me.

Hope this helps.

I belive Dual fuel means Colman fuel or regular un-leaded gas. Use only the high octane. Lower has to much additives. I use to use airplane fuel as it is 100 octane. Get it at the FBO at you local airport. However I now have a propane lantern which give me the heat, the bright light, lights instantly without pumping with no hasles. Try one, you can even get a ignighter built in. The 20oz bottle lasts a long time and the lanterns are cheaper as well as trouble free. Good luck.....Kaz
