Hellow! walleye central members!

Here is Korea and I'm Korean.

So I don't write English well.

But I'm concerned about the walleye and walleye fishing technique, becouse Walleye is just like Ssogari.

Ssogari lives in Korea fresh water .

I hope, I find to many information and new bottom sweep technique in this site.
Thank you best regards,

1. What is "Ssogari?"

: Ssogari is famous eating fish in Korea fresh water.
This very rare kind of fish has been also known as " Siniperca scherizeri(a scientific name)" or "Mandarin fish" in English.

Ssogari lives in almost every river runs through Korea, heading to the West sea and the South sea.

It could also be found in river from manchuria which was once a part of ancient Korean land.

Ssogari has not been found anywhere but in Korea so far.

2. What does it look like?

: It usually has black spots on yallow backgound (like leopard) but there are also very rarely only

yallow, white and indigo blue colors all with pearl colored the belly.

3. What should we know about Ssogaree before going fishing?

: Ssogari swims 2m/sec at its best so it has a quality of "short track runner".

Important thing is it has poisonous thorns, 12 of those as a dorsal fin and 2 on each other fins on chest and belly and its gill is sharp like razorblade.

Thus name Ssogari is from this characteristic, thus "Ssoda(it means sting)" is one thing you should be aware of.

Ssogari sting is not seriously dangerous but it gives you a pain and numbness sometimes so try not to handle Ssogari with bare hands.

4. What is Ssogaree's behavior like?

: Ssogaree hides itself in the shade until it finds little fishes and catches it within a blink of an eye.

It moves around during night time. It only eats alive fish even though it's starved.

It is impossible to breed in captivity becouse of this reason.

Ssogari survives almost two hours out of water and it usually is found in clear water but it endures a little bit polluted water as well.

กก

5. Can you eat this fish?

: Ssogari was symbolized as a king in many oriental legend and literature.

Well, this fish is very valuable dish prepared for V.I.P, usually eat it raw, steamed or Korean styled spicy soup.

It has a lot of other uses as well. Luxurious colored skin is use for handle of long sward and gallis good for killing hangover and use for liverdisease.

Tail and fins are use as a medicine for skindisease.

กก

6. What can we use for Ssogaree fishing?

: Lure fishing such as jighead worm or jigging spoon, deepdiver plug, spinner, are currently on main stream.

It's more fun to go night fishing becouse of Ssogaree's nightly habit.

Trout and bass have been pused down to second place at Korean Ssogari fishers because of this Ssogari.

I am a avid multi-species angler, carp, cat, pike, perch, walleye, whatever is frisky at the time I will fish for.

But this Ssogari thingy is one Butt ugly critter!

I like it! :)

http://teamssogari.com/ssogari.gif

It does have some characteristics that could be considered similar to a walleye, but few, very few.

Long ways to travel for me to catch another ugly fish though, I have all I need here for now.

Maybe someday though?

I agree, BE, they do sound ugly!!! But I don't think they have
pretty teeth like our Eyes? Interesting to hear about but I don't think I'll add Korea to my wanna fish places, at least not yet. :-) And the last thing I need is a new species to buy toys for.
Just made out the Bass Pro order and I tried to be conservative but I still haven't had the nerve to total it up. I'm trying to decide if I should hurry up and sneak it into the mail or let the HUSBAND see it before I mail it???? Darn, I think I'm out of stamps. :-)

That fish isn't as bad as my first walleye (being from the Carolinas) I tried to lip it into the boat. had a hand full of teeth marks(still hurts when I think about it) eyes are nasty looking critters also.

Hey! BE

Your reply is give pleasure to me. Thank you.

Korea is in cold winter, now. And heavy snowfall in Korea these day.

Ssogari is in hibernation in winter sesson.

Certainly, ssogari fishing insn't progress.

(Walleye moves under the ice!!! It is different.)

And I thing that Ssogari is not a ugly fish.

They are very keen, nervous, violent temper but they have a beatiful skin, strong teeth and dangerous poison fine bones.

So many Korean lurefisher loves ssogari.

I introduced more about ssogari pictures.

This fish has a defense system that includes a poison EH? That would make it interesting for sure?

They go doormat in winter you say, or is it nobody fish's for them? Do you get ice on the waters that they hang out in or are they a salt water critter?

Ugly fish don't bother me much, I'm used to ugly, see it every day in the mirror myself!

:)

Interesting fish you have there tell us more on how you catch them Jake.

LOL.... I was over there myself and heard about the wonderful pheasant hunting in southern Korea and on some island nearby but not the fishing. NEVER saw anything that resembled blue water though. Everything was a chocolate color BW

Hey BE
Ssogari has very sharp fishbones around the gill, on the back and the belly.

Fishbones around the gill do not contain poison, but those on the back and the belly have poisonous chemical stuff on it.

This poison is, actually, not fatal enough to kill a human. However, it will cause some quite heavy pain and the light palsy symptoms on the stung area.

That poison is known to be quite identical to those of ordinary bees sting.

Let's say if you get stung by a Ssogari's fishbone on one of your fingers, then your arm would feel the severe pain and might even get numb for the next couple hours approximately.

Additionally, Ssogari is an extreme warm-water-fish and because of this reason, Ssogari will show no activities what so ever under the water temperature of below nine degrees centigrade during the winter.

(I'm sorry. Korea using the centigrade. because I don't know about the fahrenheit.)

It's been observed by many divers that Ssogari does not move at all during this hibernation, where they take themselves to for this period of time, such as in the middle of the rock crack or a rock cave in the deepest water.

For the future reference, you will find Ssogari fishing quite amazingly enjoyable at the water temperature between 15 to 23 degrees centigrade.

Ssogari fishing season starts in April in Korea.

By that time, I will be very happy to share my Ssogari fishing reports on this board.

And the following pictures are about the nature of Ssogari to help you guys understand better and give a tiny pleasure of sharing the excitement of Ssogari fishing.

This looks more like part of the Bass family then the Perch family. The body and fin locations are closer to our Largemouth. The skin patterns are like a Musky's with coloration like an eelpout. This is probably due to the primary colors of your water foliage and water tint. Cool looking fish that would look great on the wall...replica of course.

Neat pics. Thanks, Jake Lee. Keep them comming.

Jake, great looking fish. I agree with Aquaman's general description, but also add that the color more reminds me of a frog or lizard.

I think it was real interesting that you stopped by, Jake. How big do these fish get? Good luck.

Your English is very good. It is much, much better than my Korean. Your etiquette is excellent, also. Thank you, again.
