Just wondering if anyone has been there yet this year, how you did, how the water depth was, etc. Please give me the usual stuff to inflate my expectaions to unattainable levels. Thanks in advance.

I fished out of Lost Island Lodge, which is located between Hudson and Sioux Lookout, May 28 through June 3. The fishing was fantastic we had numerous lows go through but found the fish very active in 15 to 20 feet of water. The biggest walleye was 9# and we caught numerous 5 to 7 pounders. We did boat a 41 inch northern while jigging for walleys. Also boated a lot of smallmouth bass with the biggest being 5 lbs 3 ounces. It was a great trip, the first for my father on this lake, sand banks were definitely the key to catching fish numbers also were outstanding with 100 fish days most of the time.

Where and with what did you get the smallmouth? I've asked several people about smallmouth opportunities on Lac Seul and I get little or no response. We'll be staying at Scout Lake which is much further west from where you were. Maybe the good smallmouth fishing is on the east side of the lake? Would like to learn more. We leave for Lac Seul in 27 days, 9 hours, 42 minutes, and yes, I'm ready for a vacation!

The area that we fish is loaded with smallmouth we fish as far north as canoe lake which is about 30 miles from camp. Any were you can find big submerged boulders or timber in the water is very good. We catch alot while jigging for walleye in the spring as the water warms and the walleye leave for the reefs the smallmouth stay in these areas. 1/16th ounce jig heads tipped with a leech are fantastic. I catch most of my fish on leeches anyways including walleyes so I always get a mixed bag. I fish top water baits in the morning and also rapalas for them. Smallmouth fishing here for size is very good I fish Sturgeon Bay for smallies alot. And the number of bigger fish caught is definetaly on Lac Suel. I wish I was up there right know I can hear the peace and quite of the breeze in the trees and feel the pull of a 5# smallie as it breaks the water. Take a kid fishing this expierence will keep them straight.
