View Full Version : SMALLIES ON SOUTH BASS
ANYONE DOING ANYTHING ON THE SMALLIES PLANNING TO GO THIS WEN THRU THE WEEKEND ANY INFO GOOD OR BAD IS APPRECIATED
I'd save my days off and go fish either another lake or somewhere east of the Islands. This year is not your typical smallie bite. The DNR will blame it on weather, mayflies etc. I think something else is going on. I don't know what, but the fishing has been tougher overall this spring. Yes, at times , certain places have put out a lot of fish, and quality fish, but you certainly don't find them all over like you used to in the spring. Something is up on this.
THANKS I THINK I WILL TAKE YOUR ADVICE ,HOPE DNR IS RIGHT I WOULD HATE TO THINK THAT SOMETHING IS WRONG WITH THE SMALLIES WE WERE UP IN THE FALL LAST YEAR AND HAD GOOD LUCK I HAVE HAD A TOUGH TIME ON ALMOST EVERY LAKE I HAVE BEEN ON THIS YEAR

I've also found the fishing to be somewhat off this year compared to previous years. The same places that used to give up one after another are now only giving up a few fish. I have to move around a lot more to catch fewer fish. Anybody have any ideas what the problem is other than the poor weather so far this year?

The problem,as in all other aspects of fishing on Lake Erie is the Canadian Gillnet!!! It would also help if all Charter Captains would not allow their customers to keep any smallmouth bass that they were not going to have mounted. They're lousy eaters anyway!!
