Last Year, my father and I started a 'yearly tradition' where we will be picking a spot each year to spend about 10 days camping out, and fishing. Last year we drove from Arkansas to Yellowstone National Park and spent 5 days in the woods doing nothing but sleeping in a tent and fishing the great streams and lakes of the area.

This year we have decided to travel up to the Lake of the Woods. I have ordered an informational packet from their tourist bureau in that area and have searched the web repeatedly for information. Does anyone know of any good sites I may have missed?? Information we cannot find is camping areas, hiking trails, etc. Any help would be appreciated.

Also, what other yearly fishing trips would you suggest.

Thanks.

Kevin,
I have stayed at the Zippel Bay State Park, on Lake of the Woods. This is a very nice, well kept, top notch state park facility. They have a marina, fish cleaning house, showers, and nice campsites. The campsites are not lakeside.

Here is the MN Department of Natural Resources State Park website. It shows all the parks in Minnesota. Just click on Zippel Bay, and it will provide a description of the park.

MN state parks charge for an annual entrance fee, and a per night fee for camping. I think the annual is about $15, and each night is about $7.

Lake of the Woods is an excellent choice. They have hiking trails, and other attractions.

My personal preference is to camp on remote island campsites in Voyaguer's National Park. Rainy Lake is my favorite, there are several other lakes, it's free, good fishing, more isolated wilderness setting. But that depends on what amenities you like, shower, marina, etc. LOW is excellent fishing also.

Good luck, I would be happy to answer any other questions, just post them here and I will respond.
