Got out this saturday out of rocky river and went over to Avon Point in about 55-60 ft. of water. MArked allot of fish but only caught white perch and sheepheads. We trolled from 10:00am-12:00pm and then went in close to play with the smallies. We caught 1 two pounder and allot of 6 pound sheapheads. We had to get off the lake early so we couldn't really troll for the eyes all day. Heard reports of 4-5 eyes in deeper water off avon point. Also someone said they were doing pretty goon north of the crib in 65ft of water. They had a tourment out of rocky river and most of the guys caught 4-6 eyes all nice sizes. It seem like there was a good bite early in the morning. Also the steelies were hitting pretty good from vermillion to avon. Watch out for float debre. The river was flowing pretty good. I think I'm going to try the even bite next. Going with my dad it's tough making it out there early in the morning.
Good Luck!!

Hi I run that Rocky River Tournament and some nice catches came in to be measured. 3 of the top 5 teams including myself fished north of the crib in 64-66'. These teams took 3-4-5 place the 2 top teams were fishing Fairport Harbor Ohio. Jet 20's were pulled by most teams with stinger spoons. Only 4 Teams brought 6 eyes in . I got 5 eye's with a shorted day. Last boat out: first boat in when you run the Tournament! We got 3 steelies also, wish any one of them was and eye, would have 4th place instead. Still poor fishing when only 4 teams manage 6 fish!
Winning team of
Tim Nesselhauf from Sandusky had 152.75 inches{6}
2nd Tony Sambunjak of Parma 149.75 inches {6}
3rd Don Nagel of Avon 149.5 inches{6}
4th Jim Esser of Eylria 135 inches and {6}
5th Chris Songer of Bay Village 122.25 inches {5}

G.R., how far north of the crib? Been trying around Lorain but not doing well so far. Gonna try deeper water.

Thanks in advance for any info....

The crib is about 3 miles out and to get to 64-66 feet of water would be about a mile or two more. It depends if you are to the east or west of the crib. The further east you go the deep it gets closer to shore. Those were some nice size fish I saw at the weigh in. Was that from the morning bite?
Good Luck!!

Fished monday due north off of E.72 managed 10 walleye, 20 sheephead and some white bass. Early to afternoon walleye were at 53' ran lures 35 to 50' most caught 40 down. Late afternoon fish were in 63-65 still at 40'. Last 2 hours targeted top 25 and did well. No particular program, fish came on jet 40 and 20's, downrigger, 2 on fltline reefrunners and dipseys. Confusion was best spoon but did get a couple on mayfly rig. Husky Jerk in the evening. Forget the mayfly rig if you don't want sheephead. Good Luck.......
