Boy I really hope that someone will have either at the The Midwest Walleye Expo in Milwaukee. I know that the group I'm bring will buy at least 1/2 dozen. I've been looking forward to an update of the bible and I'm sure that the casting edition will be just as good.

FYI... I was fortunate to meet the Romanack's at the Milwaukee boat show last year and was totally impressed. Class act and very knowledgeable. If you ever have a chance go see.

What is the casting book?

Precision Casting gives diving depths fpr cast lures on a specific line and at a specific length of cast. With a specific speed of retrieve. (Basically the same thing as the trolling book only for casters) More oriented to the bass market, it has more alphabet lures, although some lures are in both books. I will have them for sale at the Clev. Boat show Jan 19 - 28th.

It will give the depths of the lures on a cast vs. while trolling.

Have to agree with you on Mark Romanack. Seen him the last couple years at the Show in Grand Rapids Mi. and he has stopped and talked to us in the halls and also in his booth. He answered all our questions and spent as much time with us as we wanted. He is truly a Class Act all the way.

WHERE CAN YOU GET THESE BOOKS? A WEB SITE MAYBE?

Here's their web page.... http://www.precisiontrolling.com/
My understanding is that you receive a $5.00 discount if you provide the UPC label from previuos editions. I have seen the book being sold at Gander Mountain, not sure if they have new editions yet.

What will be different, the lure selection included in the dive curves? Any word on what the new inclusions will be?

Thanks for the heads up

James

Just spoke with Mary at the Precision Angling office. Mary mentioned that they are still approx. 6 weeks out as the artwork is just getting completed for the 6th addition. Mary also provided the following information:

- website soon to be changing to www.precisionangling.com

- you can order now from the website and add comments to comment box stating that you would like the 6 addition. Mary will then get you on back order.

- although the website does not say it, if you order from the site now, shipping is free.

- again if you have questions, contact Mark or Mark directly at 1-800-353-6958.

Hope this helps,
Paul Fournier

The much anticipated 6th edition of Precision Trolling is at the printers and should be ready for shipment in four or five weeks. The new edition will include another 40 additional baits including the Reef Runner Little Ripper, Rapala Deep Husky Jerk, RS Shad Rap, and many others. We also added some unique Snap Weight data that will enable anglers to use predict the running depth of diving crankbaits when a Snap Weight is added to the line. Cool stuff.

Also new, the Precision Casting book is finished and ready for shipment. This book answers the question of how deep do crankbaits dive when casted. As with the trolling book, all data was collected underwater using scuba gear. A "dive curve" chart is used to show not only maximum depth, but also the entire course a crank runs from splash down to rod tip. The data is based on 14 pound test, but a conversion chart is printed right next to each dive curve. The 6th edition of Precision Trolling and Precision Casting are both $24.95 and can be ordered from Walleye Central or calling our direct 800-353-6958 customer service line.

Mark, have you thought about releasing this in electronic format?

There's probably not much of a market for this yet, but I'm trying to figure out a way to mount a Palm Pilot PDA on my console (well behind the windshield, since its not waterproof) with a mini-RAM mount so I can access all of my trolling data from a small computer instead of flipping through a book on the water. Just an idea. It would be nice if sonar/GPS units could load/save user programs and data like this on a flash memory card similar to the ones used on the new Lowrance LCX-15/16 units.

We have considered an electronic version of Precision Trolling and Precision Casting. In fact we even started working on a project with someone, but one issue killed the idea. The problem with making the information digital is we can't prevent people from copying and passing on the information. We already have a problem with some folks photo copying the books. To our knowledge there's no way to prevent electronic images from being downloaded.

Sorry, but I don't see an electronic versiono of the books anytime soon. Great Idea, just too risky from a business stand point.

You're right of course, there isn't. No matter what scheme you come up with, someone will crack it eventually. Thanks for the update.

UPDATE: One other idea -- you could license the information to companies that produce sonar/GPS units for a small fee. Since the information would be in read-only memory, it would be difficult for people to redistribute it, and the development costs are low on both sides. You wouldn't have to do anything but license the information to the electronics mfg., and they wouldn't have to do much other than increase the amount of read-only memory in the unit, and write a small program to access and display the information. The expensive stuff is already there: the microprocessor, display, keypad, etc. Just a thought. I really want to push o button on my sonar and get trolling data. :-)

The recording industry just announced a way to do this at last weeks electronics show. Look into it. Prevents copy and distribution. new medium very small compact holds more data than you have.
