Hi folks. I have one simple question: If you had to pick on place to go and catch walleye, where would it be? I'm looking for a lake somewhere in Canada within a few hours of the 1000 Islands bridge. Can't really afford a fly-in, but would drive to somewhere remote.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! I've fished the Bay of Quinte the last few years, and have been disappointed with the many walleye-less hours.

Thanks in advance!

I have fished the Rice Lake area several times, late summer/early fall and got in to the walleyes pretty good on the Otanobee River that flows into the west end of the lake. There is good depth and water color thoughout most of that section of the river all the way up to the lock at Peterborough. I had great success slipping the deep holes and outside turns with 1/4 oz. tinsel jigs tipped with a crawler. Recreational traffic will be a problem in July. If you have trouble with the walleye the largemouth and smallmouth fishing is terrific. Lots of big blue gills too.

I stayed at Rainbow Cottages on the river. Nice place.

Good luck if you try it.

I have also fished at Rice Lake near Bewdley fish the weed beds verticaly in july /oct,but for great smally action fish the small island with the swing on the Otonoby river inlet with crawfish and a split shot,in mid sept. and I guarantee you will catch a 6lb plus smally plus average thirty a day,but please practice catch and release! the lake at that time has an algea blum so fish shallow for the eye's and troll the edge of the weeds at the r/r bed and Black island with Magnet's and Wally Divers Oleruff

As to your earlier request, I have fished Lovesick Lake for 20 years. I have also stayed at Ardaugh Resort the whole time. It's a wonderful place to stay. It has all the comforts of home, its clean and the owners are super nice. The lake is mostly shallow with heavy weed growth(after May). The walleye are there but you really have to work for them. Zebra mussels have really cleared the water up and it is getting hard to catch the walleye trolling. The walleye aren't big but it is a beautiful lake. There is a abundance of big musky, smallmouth and largemouth bass. I highly reccommend Ardaugh cottages but its gonna take a couple of years to get to know the lake. Give it a try.
