What a site! Love this place! I get a kick out of the fact that virtually everyone here fits one of the catagories in my title, at least some of the time. Now I will go on my soap box. To those of you that are lately claiming you do not post here as often as you used to, come on back son! Where are you running off to? Just because someone has a opinion different than yours and has the people skills of a Gorilla, or some idiot bashes you, your post or your brand of choice, you don't have to run and hide. They are printed words on a computer screen. Stay visit, learn and enjoy. God I love this place.

Perhaps this puts me in your whiners box, but how can we get folks to "bash" or argue someone's idea or position rather than bash the person. We are sharing and often disputing ideas -- we ought to be able to separate the idea from the person. Good folks can have bad ideas.

LAST EDITED ON Jan-10-01 AT 01:14PM (CST)[p]I treat it like TV, if I don't want the channel I turn it off or switch. Now, having said that, I have gotten "caught-up" in some discussions that I should have thought better of, but, then again I have opinions too and nearly all opinions, more often than not, add to this Board, IMHO. :7 (pun intended)

If I don't have something nice to say, I'd rather say nothing at all. It is just a lot easier not to get on here and have to defend my individual opinion. When a question is posed for an oppinion on a rod, reel, boat, motor, etc., it is different, but to argue that my fishing shack is better than yours is just getting too ridiculous. That is what a lot of us are growing tired of happening to our posts. If people would allow others to have their opinion be heard without screaming at them like a child that didn't get their way we could have an adult level exchange of ideas. This happens to be the real world though and the more civilized among us are much more careful picking and choosing topics to respond to. (IMHO!)

That's what our entire country is based on, people able to express their opinons, whether you agree with them or not! The people that are closed minded and don't consider other opinons valid, will never become better than mediocre fisherman, because they are afraid to open themselves up to new ideas. That's their problem, we needn't trouble ourselves over their fear and shortsightedness. There are many people on this sight that are open to new and different ideas or opinons. I have fished tournaments for 6 years, the first 2 I thought I knew everthing, and my results seldome showed it, with only a couple of paychecks to show for my trouble. The last 4 years I started from ground zero, questioning everything and learning as much as could from seminars, books, and magazines. It was the best thing I could of done, after my change in attitude, I have won 3 tournaments and over the last 4 years have cashed checks in about 1/3 of the tournaments I enter. It is truly amazing what can happen when you open your mind and don't asume you "know it all".

It's also truly amazing to express an opinion and to be personally acused of "marching lockstep" with "commies." That (and worse) has happened here to me.

What's that old saying? "If you don't have something nice to say; say something mean" - something like that. ;)

I love this place too! Most of the time people present their opinion in a cordial manner. Every now and then there are a few that resort to name calling whether it be to individuals or products. In my mind there is no place for that. I enjoy good healthy discussions about pros and cons about particular practices or products.
In my mind there is a different product for a different application that works differently in different scenarios so there obviously is never a single correct answer. :) How do you like that mouthful?
All I can say IMO,is those of you that like to bash people or products by calling them "idiots" or "junk" can find another place to post, otherwise, as many opinions or ideas that are presented help us open minded people to do better what we love to do, catch more and bigger WALLEYES!!!

Come on guys, get a little tougher. You're going to let some words on a computer screen make you quit? You're going to let someone you don't even know run you off with a few nasty words? You can call me any name you like, I work with the public and I've been called anything you can think of and probably more. I've also been told I am stupid, that my opinion's are stupid, and that I am low-lie scum. Sure it stings sometimes, but I've never had any permanent damage. I still do and believe in the job I do and will despite words directed at me. A long time ago I learned that you have to develop a tough hide or stay out of the public arena. That's just the way it is. If you have something to say, say it; if you disagree with an opinion, disagree; if someone trashes you, blow them a kiss!!!!!!!!!!

Regulars, bashers, whiners and criers and salesmen and soap box preachers? You say you get a kick out of that fact that almost everyone on this message board fits into one of those catagories at least some of the time? But what group of people can't you say that about? It fits everyone from prostitutes to priests.(no offense to either profession)
Let's see, today I am going to be a regular, whining basher.
1. I am a regular on this board, that is true.....
2. I am a whiner today because I have been sitting at home with the flu bug for 2 days......
3. I am bashing your post because I know you'll get a kick out of it and I want to make your day you lowlife!
But seriously folks, I learned a long time ago that you never know what personal problems someone is experiencing so when they lash out at you without justifiable cause its sometimes best to dismiss it. They could be having marital problems, a seriously ill family member, just quit smoking etc. Of course if you have that affect on several people, maybe your just an obnoxious person.

I'll agree. There is also the distinct possibility of being mis-interpreted. Say something outloud with key inflections in your voice and it is funny, write it on paper with no inflections and occasionally it looks like were being cynical.

A regular, I probably am. It is addictive. Most folks know I am here to try and help and also to have a good time. I don't respond if I don't THINK I know the answer, unless I am trying to get a laugh from the poster (especially if I know them).
Hey this place is great. For the most part, people don't just "Tee off" on a poster....even when some posts deserve it.
;-) (LOL...unfortunately, true.)
Bet we could all have an even better time if we just remembered to have a bit of repect for everyone else, and then word our comments with that respect in mind.
Only time folks get mad is when dis-respect is present.
Doesn't mean you have to sugar coat it when you disagree, just do it respectfully.
Nah, it's only 2 more boat payments, and those come fast so...
also love this board. Never posted or read one before this one. I think I like this board because some of you all sound just like my fishing partners - I get no respect. If they treated me respectfully, I'd be on life support.

FUNNY YOU SHOULD MENTION "LIFE SUPPORT".
THREE YEARS AGO TODAY. AIR AMBULANCE TO DES MOINES (NO TIME FOR ROAD TRIP). LEGIONAIRES DISEASE FOLLOWED BY "SUPER PNEUMONIA". LUNGS LOCKED UP. NO AIR IN OR OUT. 3 WEEKS ON BREATHING MACHINE TIED TO A BED. 2 MONTHS RECUPERATION, HAD TO LEARN TO WALK AGAIN.
MORAL OF THE STORY: LIFE IS TOO SHORT, AND IS OVER TOO QUICK, TO LET THE TRIVIAL AND PETTY STUFF WEIGH TOO HEAVY ON YOUR MIND.
NOW, WILL SOMEBODY HELP ME DOWN OFF THIS SOAPBOX?

If I'm gonna make a payment on something, what better than a boat? At least I know that I'm getting my money's worth. :)
