View Full Version : Erie Walleye R Hungry!

For those of you who haven't been out on Lake Erie in the past two weeks...I really feel for you. For whatever reason, the walleye, smallies and perch have been triggered and are extremely active. I hope everyone can get out and have fun with this hot streak! Went out again on Sunday and limited out on walleye with several of them in the 4-7 lbs range. Seemed to like lighter tackle - 1 ounce green bottom bouncers and gold weight-forward spinners. I enjoy reading the post on this web site and get a real kick out of the ones geared towards "No walleye in Lake erie." and the "ODNR is lying again to us." People, those 6 million walleye out there just don't die or get netted within a 1 year period. Those fish simply were not turned on to feed...and in the case of this year, there hasn't been anything we as humans could attract them with until recently. Take the erie derie....a lure that resembles absolutely NOTHING!!! So why has it worked in the past? Maybe water clarity? Remember, this lure worked exceptionally well in the 1980's when water clarity was dirty. Maybe it aggrivates walleye and they just attack it to injure it? Who knows? The point I am trying to make is that the "NUMBERS" of fish probably have not changed...only the enviroment (water clarity, temperatures and new bait fish - gobe) has changed. The lake goes in cycles, just like a stock market. Try to enjoy the good times - LIKE NOW!!!

I am really wasting my time responding to this, but what the heck. NO ONE said there were no eyes in Erie, NO ONE said the lake was dying. The posts here have been a concern with the overall fishery and not waiting until it is too late before taking a good look at the situation. I don't know where you get that 6 million eye figure, but the population, according to "government" experts is less than half of what it was in the 80s and there are other problems - Zebra mussells, gobies etc. Actually I am wasting my time, I am sure you won't understand.

THANKS for the report, Lundy. We plan to drive 300 miles to fish the Great Lake of Erie the coming weekend. Those of us who must make decisions about whether or not to drive long distances to fish Erie appreciate reports like yours.

how about lighten up, the guy was nice enough to report. Is it a mistake to share an opinion too! The guys excited about his adventure on the pond. Sounds like he did o.k. for the day. Why must every fish report message board be filled w/ the gloom and doom of the so called comming of the end of walley fishing.I feel that most come to the fish report section to help plan there upcomming weekends fishing trip not to here the same ole political crap every other day. Hope I didn't offend any one, just voicing my lone opinion. thanks. Dan J.

Amen Dan J. The bite may be as good as it gets and to sit and complain doesn't help. 3 of us caught 30 Sunday trolling 3 miles west of North Bass. We had a blast! I think we should enjoy now because we won't be able to "dance in the boat" for much longer. Usually in August the bite slows big time and we fish for perch the rest of the year.

Bob oh...Relax! Your right! You were wasting your time. I didn't mean to offend anyone but it looks like i pushed your "wrong" button. I apologize. I just want everyone to get out and catch fish including you. I've enjoyed walleye fishing for almost 20 years and want people from all over to enjoy it as well. SO TO ALL: FISH THE HURON REEF COMPLEX OR ANYWHERE FOR THAT MATTER!!! WEATHER SHOULD BE NICE NEXT COUPLE OF DAYS AND WIND WAS LIGHT OUT OF SW TODAY (monday.)!!!

Lundy,Good job on your catch. Yes, the bite has picked up and looks good. I fish Huron every year in the fall but I plan on fishing this area earlier this year. I was @ 4 mile N. of Huron three weeks ago and caught 4 nice eyes. Alot of sheephead and white bass. Is this in the general area where you were fishing? Scott

I think people think the fish are going to just jump into the boat, but even if six million fish are in there, that is a big lake for all of them to hide in. I had a trip up there in early June and brought a couple home, one was filled with gobies, so maybe try fishing with live bait instead of something that looks like nothing they are used to eating. Fish on!

Where did the 6 million number come from? I think it is wrong by a magnitude of about 10 - based on what I read.
