I am planning a trip to the Detroit River for a couple days and am flexible when I go. My question is what is the peak for both quality and quantity of Eyes? I fished the detroit River in 1999 the last week of April we did OK, but I was under the impression we were just a little late. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,

I've been going the second week of April the last several years, and it has always been a pretty safe week. There has been one or two years a week later might have been a little better but I don't recall ever being to late. Maybe someone else has had different experiences. I'm curious to know this also.

when the water hits 42 deg's is the best....but depending on the weather, sometimes there are still ice flows coming down from st clair river and lake st clair. usually early april is the "hot" time. with that hot bite, you can almost walk across the river going boat to boat. there's walleye in the river all year long. the PWT will be there again this year in april, so you might want to come just before or just after them. (ask any pro, they always bring bad weather with em..he he he )e-mail me for more details if you would like

I would heartily suggest that you go around the second week of April. I realize they don't own it, but the PWT will be there the first week. It will probably be a little congested. I think they are launching at Erie Metropark so maybe you should use Elizabeth Park launch. Maybe you will want to go while a tournament is on, they can be fun to watch. I believe Pro Team Walleye has their tournament on week 2, and the MWT has theirs on week 3. As you can see the Detroit River is a VERY popular place in the Spring.
Good Luck
