View Full Version : Small round reel - good one?

I need a small (ultralight type ??) round reel for my vertical jigging rod. The rod is stiff, short and light weight and a regular size reel overbalances it, particularly metal ones that I prefer to the graphite. I do not normally use this combination for casting jigs, for that I pick up a spinning combo, so centrifical or magnetic casting brakes are not particularly important. I do catch some oversize smallmouth from time to time so need a great drag. Flipping switch would be useful simply for letting some line out using one hand, but not critical. Any one have any good recommendations?
Thanks in advance,
ufda

Howdy, UFDA

How goes the battle down South? It's pretty hard to beat the Calcuttas in the 50 or 100 series. I don't recall ever seeing a round reel with a flippin switch, but that doesn't mean they don't exist.

Thanks for the reply Dave. You're right, I haven't seen one with a flippin switch either. Weather down here is unsettled with rain and snow in the mountains, but the reservoirs are getting some much needed inflow. Should be a great spring!-you know, like starting in Feb. :-) Problem is, looks like my job will put me in Minnesota for a few months about then. Brrrrrrrrrr for this AZ transplant - been here too long, the blood is thin.
