Monday, August 14, 2000. Got back yesterday. Had some good advice for several folks who had been out over the weekend. Went out 14 miles from West Harbor entrance on a 340 off Green. Got into some really nice walleye. Kept 30, mostly 19 inches or better. Several were 22 to 24 inches. Trolled big dispsy and scorpion spoons, best colors were again copper backs, confusion, copper with pink edge and the like. Also ran jet 20s with stingers and hot n tots off the boards. The dispsy’ caught 3 to 1 over the boards.

Hey Denied,
I am heading over there Sunday.....what depths were working best for you?....what length leaders were you using on the dipsies?.....Have you tried running spoons with crankbaits on 3 way swivels?......let me know what you think,
thx,
Chris

Chris, I run 6 foot leaders off the dipsys, also a snubber (shock cord). I use 7 ft rods and my bait hangs at the end of the handle with the dipsy all the way at the tip of the rod. I think the longer leaders help. We were in 29 to 31 foot of water most of the time. I have tried using cranks and spoons off 3 ways in the spring, but the spoons are working so good at the present water temperature, I don't bother with cranks. Hope to get back out tomorrow, got blown off the lake today. If I can help, e-mail me direct or check my web site.

Me too Jack. This is the best walleye fishing in August that I have had in many a year. Go figure, very few in June, limits in August???
Must be the weather.

I'm from central PA and it's long haul for me to get out to Port Clinton. Is it worth it right now. How far out are you going and is it all trolling or are casters having a good time too. If it's trolling I can just go to Ashtabula (might not catch as many, but they're hogs) Thanks a ton.

Steve, we were about 14 miles out of West Harbor, Cataba Island. I think the trollers are doing the best, there was a small pack up near "F" can on the boarder than was drifters. The eyes are in spots for now. If you can find them, you can catch them.
