I am going bear hunting near Warroad Aug 20-28. I will be taking my boat and fishing during the day, sitting in a stand in the evenings. Can someone give me some suggestions where to go for a day trip? I can trailer to Zippel Bay or Wheeler's Point. Also entertaining the idea of going to Red Lake for crappies, but don't know anything about it. any help would be appreciated.

I don't know the Minnesota side very well, but we fish the Canadian side. I do know that this time of year they do a lot of trolling in Big Traverse around Garden Island up toward the North end for walleye.. If you head up there and look for the big white launch boats you might try some trolling if you don't invade their personal space too much. I'll be there the same time you are on the Canadian side. I hear the action is pretty good on reefs and rock humps with crawlers on spinner rigs and jigs right now. You might try getting a good map and just look for some of these and you should get into some walleyes. Good luck.

Fish-On, go to www.lakeofthewoodsmn.com , they have pretty accurate weekly updates out of Baudette, if you go out of wheelers or Zippel you might want to try Pine Island or Graceton Reef, they are both real close by, so you can still be in your stand early. Good luck Porter
