what do you guys think about the quality of cabelas combos and their other rods and reels.it looks like they have more combos this year than last, some of the prices seem fair but i was just wanting to know what you guys do most of the time.also what is a good reel- baitcasting, levelwind,or spinning for trolling, bottom bouncers, casting cranks?

I posted a question similar to this a little over a week ago and got no response. I was looking at the Pinnacle PWT bait caster combo for pulling bottom bouncers. Good price, but seems too good. I asked if anyone had ever used this sort of combo and got no replies. For the money it looks like that may be the best combo they have. I like my Pinnacle Deadbolt spinning reels, the quality is really good. I was just wondering about the bait casting reels. The rod is IM7 so I guess it would be pretty sensitive, but not so, compared to my St. Croix's. I can't afford a lot for any more new rods so this will probably have to do.

I like Cabelas a lot. I buy hundreds sometimes thousands of dollars of gear from them every year. The only credit card I carry is a Cabelas card.
BUT THERE REELS STINK !! Never had one that worked right, I have tried a lot of them. Any hard use and they go bad.
Cabelas brand clothes and rods I have never ever had a problem with. It is only with their reels.
Good Luck

I think I see your pinnacle PWT Combo in my catalog for 49.98. My 1st guess is that neither the rod nor the reel are Cabela's brand, so I don't think quality of Cabela's products come into play here. It is my guess that Cabela's buyers got a good buy on this combo and felt it's quality was OK for the price.
You know that any combo for < $50 that boasts an IM7 rod is not going to be real high quality stuff. For example, you can get some IM7 rods for about $25, but even Cabela's brand start @ $59.99.
Remember Cabelas will stand behind their stuff with a no-hassle return policy. (if it doesn't say Cabela's on it, save your reciept!)
Buy what you like,

I use some Cabelas Graphite spinning rods and have tried their inner-line trolling rods and I like them. I think the Cabela's Pro Guide IM6 rods are a good buy for $45.
By the way Weyes1, If you normally use St Croix rods and a $90 deadbolt why are you thinking about buying budget equipment now? I really have never used Pinnacle bait casts, I bought a Pflueger many years ago and still use it most the time when I am not using spinning equipment.

If you can find the 2000 Tackle Shop catalog they have a combo in there that I use for bottom bouncing and it is awesome! It is an XML rod with a Quantum accurist reel. The rod is great and the reel is okay, but the best part is the that the reel has a flipping switch which is a necessity when bottom bouncing.
I think the whole combo was $149 which was only 10 bucks more than if you just wanted to buy the rod. Maybe they will still honor it even though they came out with a new catalog.
