View Full Version : Kaby Lodge ON
I am going to Kaby Lodge in Ontario the week of 9/11. Can anyone give me some information or locations.
Been there and Pine Portage 7 times and there is really too much to tell except take plenty of jigs and get a guide the first day (about $85.00). Good walleye population and excellent perch in the river not far from the camp. You won't regret the trip if you get the guide.
Thanks for the info. Have you ever been up this late in the season?
I've been there twice in the fall and the walleyes are bigger and more aggressive. The perch are the bonus in the fall right in the Little Kaby River behind the camp. As I said, you'll be vertical jigging and backtrolling for position deprnding on the wind. You'll buy minnows at camp, but take some plastic tails in case you run out of meat. Take a portable depth finder if at all possible to find the structure. Wish I was going this year but I just got back from Alaska and the warden is on my tail. Good luck !

As indicated, too much area to try and pinpoint but hiring a guide for the first day will be well worth your effort. Was up there this past July and had a northerly wind everyday but averaged about twenty fish per day. Take plenty of jigs (including whistler jigs) in sizes from 1/16 oz to 3/8 oz. We fished with the breeze or backtrolled just above the weeds, would also recommend connecting with a very flexible wire-leader. If you want to try a challenge, spend one day working some of the reefs casting a large minnow bait (perch or firetiger color), we lost a 20+ pike on our last day. She grabed hold of a 18" norhtern that was being landed (quite a thrill).
A very good guide to ask for if you decide is Bob Cayer. He put us on fish, away from other parties and we had a very enjoyable outing with him. He, also, cooks a great shore lunch called the Fish broil.
Good luck and report when you get back.
