Does anyone have any opinions on Stren Sensor or possibly Vanish line as a trolling line w/without planer boards? I like using Fireline, but as mentioned on this board before, there can be drawbacks. With the low stretch properties of the above lines, it seems as though it could be a good compromise.

Vanish atleast on this site has recieved rather negative marks and that may be too kind. Stren Sensor would not be my choice. If you really like Vanish look for a higher quality flourocarbon (I am not the person on here to know the good flourocarbon names but there are some good ones out there). The #10 XT should be what you want if you wnata mono, a couple other choices that you have are #10 Sensi-Thin and #10-14 Tournament Pro (both are trilene products). Of course theres still Spider Wire and the other superlines.

Eyeowa,
I am not sponsored by Berkley but have been a faithful user of their products for years. I can say that until I used Vanish, I was 100% loyal to their product line. Last year, I tried Vanish as both leader material and a main line for jigging. It didn't last long or it broke immediately. I made sure to wet the knots as I cinched them, but it didn't matter. I wouldn't recommed this product. It seems with fluorocarbons, you get what you pay for. So, if you're dead set on using them, try Seaguar. I haven't heard any negative feedback on it.

I would not even consider using anything but braid when trolling. Maybe you should go to a slower action rod and stick with braid? Why do you want to troll with mono? Its like dragging a rubber band.

Minnesota--I've had good luck w/fireline, but thought the other lines may be easier to use w/boards and take away some of the "worry" of losing fish due to the non-stretch factor. Maybe I'll just get a couple of "softer" rods. Thanks.

You might try tying on a 3-4 foot section of mono as a shock leader if you are worried about lip rippin. I have found that the boards run better on fireline. Especially when it is rough out. Good luck. I hope that what ever you decide on works out for you! Catch some big ones!!
