View Full Version : huron eyes?
Are the eyes hitting in the huron area? I am docked at Catawba so I can go west of the islands or to huron. Trying to decide which way to go Saturday.
Thanks Ryan

Fished over the weekend around ruggles .Fished the 28 and the 29 line. Drifting with those PAS Crawler Connections. Two of us had 11 fish in a little over 2 and a half hours. The largest was a little over 7 lbs. most were in the 18 to 20 inch range. All were found on the bottom. Good Luck.
Ryan,
Here's a little tip, east of Kelley's. Their perch fishing, were drifiting buy netting walleye's. We did 28 eye's, 35ft of water.
Give me a call in the AM on CH. 68, Johnny G.
Might go to Huron, if that shuts down.
Big gold or copper Blades on the Bottom(size 5).
Matt
Matt, I won't be up until Saturday evening. I am fishing Sunday and Monday as well weather permitting.
Thanks Ryan
I monitor 68 and go by "Eye Spy"
There have been some bigger eyes caught out off of huron the last couple of days, not a lot of numbers, but larger fish, actually they have been between Vermilion, and Huron. on the 27 line N/S, the guys have been moving north and south and finding small pockets of the bigger fish, some have even been taken in some shallower water, and some in as much as 48 foot., most have been close to the bottom. very early morning ,and late afternoon seems to have been the best time for the larger fish the last few days. good luck and good fishin.

It seems that some fisherman are catching walleye around the island area.Three of us fished Yesterday Sept 2 and again Sept 3 north of ruggles beach starting at the 28 line. Yesterday we had 28 walleye before noon and we started at eight. Today we had 22 before noon. We wanted to come home and watch the Browns. Should have gone perch fishing. We caught 90 % of our fish on yhose new fintail spoons. There new this year.We got them at fishermans Wharf in Port Clinton. By the way all our walleye were in the 16 to 22 inch range But we did happen to hiy one fish ohio yesterday. There sure is a big school of fish down here.If thet turn on you can fill you cooler in a hurry.
fished sat. 9\2 btwn w. sister and the bass islands (the flats?) two of us, and caught our limits. throwbacks and lost total 40 fish. we were drifting/casting mayfly rigs but most came casting. fish were 16 to 24" good keeper size! we have caught limits past 4 times out, early july to present. huron is close enough, both are good prospects. good luck

Fished between huron and vermilion over this past weekend. Came close to filling 3 tags, using those Pas lures, and crawler connections. Sure dolike them lures especially when the fish are down deep and you have a good drift. Gold and watermelon worked the best for us.

Hello, it’s Wednesday morning. We had a lot of wind Monday, Memorial Day, and Tuesday. We probably had 30 knot winds yesterday. Monday morning when I came out of the house to open the store at 5:15 am, it was hot and muggy. Then the wind started blowing out of the northeast and it started to rain, and it cooled down. By 7:oo it was cool and windy. A few people went out fishing but they didn’t stay long, the waves got too big. It’s too bad, on a holiday week end, but I guess we can’t do any thing about the weather. It was a good thing it happened on the last day. That’s not too bad, everyone had two good days on the lake, and the wind gave everyone a day to get up late, go out and have a nice breakfast, and have plenty of time to get home early and relax, before they have to go back to work. The wind pretty well stopped today, and some people are going out fishing. Most are going fishing for either smallmouth bass or perch. They aren’t effected by the stained water as much as the walleyes are. Tomorrow we will start walleye fishing again. They are still biting good now because of the cooler water temperatures. When the water is stirred up from the wind or a lot of runoff from the rain, the walleyes just lay on the bottom for a few days and wait for the water to clear up before the start eating. They are just like us humans, we wait for the water to run a while and clear up before we drink it. And we don’t like to eat from a dirty plate. O, there was one thing I forgot to mention in my last report on Sunday that should be told. When my family did so good perch fishing Sunday the only bait we had with us was golden shiners. We didn’t even take any lake shiners with us. You see we have used the golden shiners so many times for years that we have confidence in them, and we never even gave it a thought when we didn’t catch fish in the first spot we tried, that the problem might be the bait. We just moved to another spot, and that’s where we got them. You see it is a natural thing when you are using something that you are not familiar with and you are not having any luck, to blame it on that thing, and not the real problem, (there just isn’t any fish in that spot). That’s what we tell people that are using the golden shiners for the first time, or they didn’t have any luck with them the first time they tried them, if you are not catching fish with this bait MOVE to another spot, don’t quit, the problem is not the bait. We try to always have lake shiners at Hi-Way Bait & Tackle, but sometimes the bait catchers that get them out of Lake Erie, just can’t get them for one reason or another, or they are the wrong size for good bait. That is when we get the golden shiners. I like the golden shiner better because they are a solid bait that stays on the hook better and you can catch two, three, or four fish on the same minnow. They are more consistent in size, and they live in the minnow bucket a lot longer. The weather looks good for the rest of the week. Maybe a scattered shower Friday. The water should be cleared up for the week end too. Good fishing, & good luck. Don. I do this report on my web site every couple of days and I try to keep you posted on the fishing off Huron especially this time of year. One of my readers e-mailed me today to tell me he did well off huron sunday.
