Have been thinking of trying Powerpro Line. What has been your experience with it? How does it compare to Fireline or Spiderline? Thanks, Jim
Good stuff. It will outwear Fireline at least 5 to 1, probably more. It's made out of Spectra fiber, the some thing that spider wire is made out of. It is more round than SW, and handles well. Good luck
I was also thinking of trying it. 10# break strength seems more that adequate, but I'm a little concerned about the 2# diameter - seems like a cobweb. However, looking at the next largest diameter, it seems like overkill to go to the 20/6 for a jigging line.

In my experience the small diameter is great for jigging
but hard for us old geezzers to tye.

I hear ya BigFish. These old eyes could find it in the tackle store but when I was putting it on the reel, and it was off the spool, man, I couldn't hardly find it. I then went to the 6/20 and really like it. I have tried it for everything, jigging, rigging, on 3 ways, long lining, and on boards. I really like it better for jigging, and 3 ways, it seems to fray with a slip sinker, and I am a die hard mono man on boards. I do still use it for jigging, and 3 ways. I have also used it ice fishing, save the effort, it doesn't work well. Seems to hold water and ices up more than I like. My conclusion, great stuff for just about everything, but better for some things.

How does it compare with Fireline for casting on a spinning reel, distance, twisting and looping, noise going thru guides, general manageability?

I am a Fire line fan but always look for somthing new.
My biggest gripe with Spectra fiber is it's wear rate and breaking strength in cold water conditions. I gave up on Spider Wire due to this.
Is the Cabela's version any better than Fire Line for trolling & or jigging?
Getting a order ready and still wondering on this product is it is worth the try? Any feedback helphull too guy's, Thank's.

The stuff is pretty expensive. Do you use a mono backing?

I've used it a lot as a leader for fishing rivers around snags/rocks. It's really tough stuff and works well as a soft flexible leader. I've also used the 50# version for sailfish and dorado and it was fantastic. They do have a website that cover some special knots that might be of some interest. I've stuck pretty much w/ single or double palmar with no trouble.

I used this line for Jigging and for casting cranks.
It works great for both of these technices.
I also used it for trolling with boards and I had to go with a mono leader. Other wise you reel in a pair of lips when your trolling 3 + MPH. Gives a whole new meaning to the nickname
LIP RIPPER.

LAST EDITED ON Jan-14-01 AT 02:59PM (CST)[p]I'm a big Power Pro fan, and have the 30lb line on my SG27's. I've catch everything from perch to walleye to regular trout to big lake trout. It's amazing stuff. After awhile it loses its color and turns whitish, but it's still strong as ever.
I still have Fireline on a few reels and won't upgrade it until it wears out.
Forgot to mention, I fill mine first with 1000' of Trilene 12lb XL, then the 30lb PowerPro fills the remainder of the spool perfectly.

I don't think so. The 27LC measures in feet. Reel capacities are typically measured in yards. 200 yards of 20lb mono is the advertised capacity, or 360 yards of 14lb mono for the walleye model (same reel, different handle). 360 yards x 3 (to convert to feet) is more than 1,000' (feet). Right?

Don't totally get rid of your Fireline. I love PP for casting and rigging in the spring, Summer and Fall, but it sucks for ice fishing. It soaks up water like a sponge then freezes to your spool. I am respooling with Fireline on my ice reels and will continue to use the Power Pro 2/10 during open water season.

Your right Gunga Din, for some reason I read 1000 ft. as 1000 yds. All that partying as a teenager is starting to catch up to me!

I've had fireline freeze up the same way?????

Your right to some degree, but PP is really bad about that. I almost lost a fish two weeks ago because my spool was frozen and the fish went on a small run. I really like the Power pro during the open water season though.

Have been using power pro for about 5 years now. Tried using it for about everthing and have settled on using for vertical jigging (2-10PowerPro). I also use the 10-50 on my pike rods. For Crank bait fishing, especially trolling cranks, I have gone back to mono. The power pro was not forgiving enough for my taste. They are now making the line in pink so it easier to see whin jigging. In very clear water you may want to use a mono or fluorocarbon leader. It does require a backing of mono. The best knot I found to use was the palomer. Improved clinch does not hold as well.

Ripcord is good stuff. Similar to Powerpro. More supple than fireline, and definately worth a try!
