Thinking of Fishing In Fairport, OH in August??

Going fishing to Ohio in August to Fairport, is this a good time? Heard the 1st or 2nd weekend was best? Went to Port Clinton last April and was great!!! Was told that trolling in August is a blast (Steelhead, Salmon, Walleye) any suggestions.

I don't know where the city of Fairport is, but if you are referring to Fairport Harbor, in Painesville, you will find that August is usually a good time to be in that area. It depends on how the summer weather goes as far as lake temp, but there are usually huge schools of 'eyes holding 8-12 miles out. Stop in the baitshops near the lake and ask, they can usually tell you whereabouts the fish are holding. I'm usually launching out of Geneva that time of year, a bit to the East of Painesville. Dipsy Divers, wire lines etc are good. Try nightfishing with flat-lines or planer boards. Your friend is right, what a blast!

In general first two weeks of August should be good for Fairport Harbor for both eyes and steelhead. You didn't say if you were bringing a boat or need to charter. If you are bringing a boat and have some flexibility in travel plans your best bet is to watch this board for where to go and decide at the last minute. If you need to charter then you should probably get something booked as the best Captains fill up quick. I can recommend some good captains for you from Port Clinton to Fairport Harbor depending on when you are going. Also FYI last year around 4th of July was some of the best Lake Erie steelhead fishing I've ever seen in the Lorain area. Hope we have that again!

Go to Geneva or Ashtabula in August-Fairport is better in June or July. We had a big school the past (2)years between Geneva and
Conneaut. Alot of big fish.
