was fishing presq. isle, in my canoe, when I came back in to the stream, I noticed erie has a tide. i thought so when I was there before. but I know it does. how do i know when it is low and high, like in the ocean, they post high tide and low tide. and dont any one say Iam crazy. when I went out there was a lot of water, when I came back I had to get out and walk the canoe. very curiouse, I have been watching this for a couple years now, and just wandering.

Being a realitivly shallow lake, Erie is very effected by the winds. A West wind will push the water to the East end of the lake. At the same time there will be a "back flow" below the surface in the opposite direction. I dock at West harbor, which is on the south shore. I have seen a strong south wind over a day or so lower the level in my marina by two feet or more. When the wind quits, the water level will come back up.

denied is correct....the phenomenon he is refering to
is called a 'seiche'..winds from one direction for a
period of time will 'pile' water up on one side of lake...
imagine a fish bowl...with the water inside rocking
from side to side...only on a larger and slower scale...
seiches/wind can also cause warm surface water to pile up on
one side of lake...forcing cold water from depths to
surface on opposite side...an event that happens quite
a bit on lake ontario...
