With the recent cold snap here in upstate NY, the walleye have finally started to turn on! I've been hitting the river almost daily and I just started getting some decent fish in the last few days. Nothing like "Erie" eyes, but nice eaters in the 18-20 inch range...plus the occassional big females (which I release). Just thought I'd pass on the good news! Good Fishing, Sluggo

I fish from a boat, but they're picking them up from shore as well..just not as many spots accessable from shore. Good Fishing, Sluggo

Sluggo, thanks for the post! What were you catching them on? I'm going to try to get out around the Binghamton area this week. Any that I don't catch I'll try to chase downstream to you!

Good luck!

Duane..I'm getting most of them on jigs/minnows. It actually got better over the weekend..tough fishing with the wind and cold, but picked up some limits! Don't bother chasing the fish down here..they can't make it over the dam at Goudy anyways. Good Fishing, Sluggo

Thanks again for the info. I assume that they're getting a little sluggish now with the colder water. Are you jigging real slow, just lifting it off the bottom?

Sluggo. Been fishing pretty heavily at murphys Island in vestal. Been hearing rumors of nice walleyes being taken here but so far not much luck. Have tried minnows, jigs and repallas but like I said, No luck but small ones. Have caught some big muskies, 54 inch size all from boat. River has come down, looking forward to rain sometime early next week. I also tried at hickories park in owego and was able to bring home a few, 19-24 inch range. I think this year may be slow do to the road costruction, lots of noise going on there, hope i am wrong with this idea. I do believe the big females should have already made there way up. Have loads of fun fishing. Hope to see ya outthere. Jon

Jon, Since I posted that original message, we went thru a severe shut down...probably due to the cold snap. They turned back on last week and we were picking up limits almost daily thru the weekend. I've been doing my best out of Grippen Park. I worked all thru this holiday weekend (I'm there now), but hope to be on the water by 2:30 today for the last few hours of light. Give me a shout if you make it down there..I'm the guy in the Sea Nymph with the yellow stickers on the sides. Good Fishing, Sluggo

Sluggo. I went down on friday 11-24 fished for several hours and hit only a few fish... Pickeral. I know thereare walleyes there but they are spread far and wide. It is good news to hear that you are hitting them at grippen.. Are you down in the deep water near the airport? And i heard the ramp is in poor condition, is it? I will look for your boat and will gab if possible. Im in a 12 footer with a road runner sticker on the right rear near the old but good 6 horse and like yours it is also a sea nymph. I have been launching from Harold Moore park, ramp is sweet but water very low there, kinda wish when built they dug it out a tad deeper... Its a pain getting the boat back on the trailer, good exercise though.. Will look for ya and keep the messages up to date. Take care and "GOOD FISHIN" Jon
