I am curious about ice fishing the Huron area, assuming that the lake freezes enough this year. Are the walleye still in the area at this time or have they moved on? Is the area around the pier a good area? I have always gone off the Catawba pier but want to try some different areas.

Mack,
The area east of the Islands(including Huron)is not safe to ice fish. There is nothing there to lock the ice in.There are times when it looks like ice as far as you can see. Then you go back in a few hours and the ice is gone and it is all open water. You may consider fishing the Michigan shore during the ice season. The last couple of years Brest Bay has been good for eyes. The same jigging lures work there but most of the time you need to down size them. There is hardly ever any current in that area.
Good Fishing
