How about these apples!! It may explain the unexplainable. . . .
It sure seemed like the Giants had our snap count, but it looks like they might have had more.

There are serious suggestions in the National Football League that the New York Giants have been cheating in the playoffs by intercepting radio transmissions.

The matter was first brought to the attention of NFL commissioner Paul Tagliabue after the Giants defeated the Philadelphia Eagles in their playoff game two weekends ago.

The Eagles said they have reason to believe the Giants were able to listen to the plays being sent via radio from coaches to their quarterback, Donovan McNab. All NFL quarterbacks have helmets equipped with special radios. Once the Giants heard the plays, the Eagles are claiming, they were able to set up their defence accordingly with hand signals.

Yesterday, similar fears were being expressed by the Minnesota Vikings, who were crushed 41-0 by the Giants in the National Football Conference final on Sunday.

The NFL is desperately is trying to keep the issue quiet, what with the Giants having qualified for the Super Bowl. But, rest assured, you'll hear more about this sinister stuff in the next few weeks.

Note: The Globe and Mail is Canada's national newspaper (roughly equivalent to the Wall Street Journal with more of a news angle than a business angle) and the author has been writing for that paper since 1973.

You have got to be kidding??? If anyone had ANY concerns about it,as in their first playoff game. Don't you think that the Vikings should have known this and substitute Hand signals to call their plays??? Heck,,,,, even after the 1st quarter, maybe try something different? I don't think that was the case.(1) Too easy to get caught.(2) If Vikings thought it was even a possability, they could have changed the way Culpepper got his orders. My 2 cents
GO Giants!!

Can you say SORE LOSER TALK? I knew that you could.

Besides, if they told Culpepper any instructions more complicated than "Hand the ball right to Smith" or "Throw deep to Moss after he knocks down the defender", he would be confused...

First- the Globe and Mail is a sleazy tabloid with little credibility. Second - this is worse case of sour grapes I've ever heard. The NY offense scored 41 points. How did they cheat?

This is certainly not my opinion. I heard it on NPR (national public radio) first, and then found it on the internet. Even though I am a Vikings fan, I think it is an absolute joke.

I'll be the first to admit that the Giants have given us all a little surprise this year.... even us, New Yorkers. But people, miracles do happen and this one's a long time in coming :-)

Look at these Packers go, they're like buzzards when the opportunity to rip on the Vikes comes along.

Speaking as a loyal Vikes fan here. There is no excuse for the way the team played. These players are getting big bucks to go out and perform. They lost, so get over it. Although football is a fantastic sport, there is more to life. Such as bringing in the 'eyes. Vikes will be back, when I don't know. But family and 'eyes will always be there. FISH ON>

I agree! Big Vikes fan, sad about losing, not getting into the bash talk with the packer fans or anyone else. Vikes will be back, possibly with a whole new team with the salary cap of 20M to dump. Go GIANTS!

So is it cheating if the defense learns the coach's hand signals? Hey, if you want radio transmissions to be secure, use encryption. But don't cry foul if your broadcast frequency is picked up by the other team. It's kind of like having the coach yell the play and crying about it because the other team heard the play. Give me a break.

How come your fish always swim right to left? It looks like a graph. I don't believe that the fish always swim right to left under my boat! ;-)

As a loyal Vikings fan, I don't think it would have made much of a difference even if the Giants did steal the play calls. The Vikes still let a second-rate quarterback have a field day against them.

If indeed this allegation were true, it may, just may address the issue of the Vikings' lack of offense. It does not, however, explain how the Giants were still able to score 41 points on the purple pussies. Given the lopsided scoring, I would submit to you that, if anything, the entire game would have to have been fixed. Shoeless Joe and the boys in helmets all these years later?

Purple pussies? LOl!! A team that was suppose to win 5 games goes to the NFC championship game with a "rookie" QB and you call them purple pussies?

Hey!!!WAIT A MINUTE!!!
Have any of you ever listened to a QB call a play in the huddle??58Eagle zTrap KY jelly on two...Ready...Break!!!Now then..Somebody here tell me what in the heck I just called!?!The standard NFL playbook is about as thick as Gone With The Wind in hardcover, and you think somebody is gonna break that code??Not unless they have a copy of the playbook my friends, and they'd have to have awful fast fingers to thumb through the pages fast enough to find that ONE specific play in 25 seconds..Now let's get real and stop the whining and bashing and watch what is probably going to be a really dull game in a week and a half..

In the pre-game show they were bragging up Culpepper and how mature he was for a second year quarterback. Talked about his audibling skills on the big Moss touchdown the week before. If he saw them cheating to cover the called plays, why didn't he audible to something to take advantage of the defensive alignment? Sounds like a lot of rumors to explain the Giants win streak instead of realizing that these teams were all about equal once the play-offs started. It's called parity. Rozelle's dream has come true. No more Dynasty's or perpetual loser's. Even Detroit has the possibility of playing in the Superbowl someday. 2025 maybe ?

I agree with you. Being a Packer fan deep in Lion country, I was trying to lure out the last of the Die Hard, Blindly Following Fools, those people so desparate for a championship that they still believe the Ford family will deliver them a Superbowl win. HA! What has Matt Millen ever done in managing a football team to deserve a shot at fixing that pathetic franchise? It's the owner that needs to be replaced! How many more All Pro caliber players do they have to chase away from the team before they see how tight fisted the management really has been? Lions=losers

Too bad hitting the delete button can not eliminate the Vikes-Giants game like it never happened. Did you really expect the Vikes to be standing there next to the LOMBARDI Trophy at the end? It still feels absolutely great to see their season come to such a spectacular end. Forty one to nothing. My two favorite teams are the PACKERS and whoever is beating the Vikings. I challenge anyone to name a single team with a worse record than the Vikes for play-off chokes. If I went fishing all year without catching a single fish, it would still be more fun than being a Vikings fan right now. Good luck next year.

Detroit Lions. They have won only one playoff game in the last 8 years, I believe. If it weren't for bad luck.......they'd have no luck at all.... Doom, Despare, and Agony on Thee !!!

To you guys that say the vikings are trying to find a way to explain 41-0 by saying the Giants cheated...better get your info straight. The Eagles are doing the accusing...the vikings straight out said they didnt believe that was the case. As for the pack fans....i know you liked watching that game. But where was your team in this whole mess? Oh yeah Favre had the best seat in the house...his own house. I'll take NFC championship with 2 losses to the pack over not making the playoffs and 2 wins over the pack...i'll take that anyday. Say how does it feel to be sitting home not watching your team in the playoffs 2 years in a row LOL!!

The only reason a team would cheat is because the must know the SUCK and could never make it threw the playoffs.

Kind of off the subject of this Vikes/Pack ripfest, but congratulations to 2 time world champion Kirby Puckett and St. Paul native Dave Winfield on their induction into baseball's hall of fame.
