Hi Ryan,
I was wondering the same thing.I was the guy you fished at the Coal Docks last winter.I herd they are fishing the Irish Hills area in Michigan but have not herd anything about this area.I`m sure all the snow we have been getting will not help the ice at all.Hope to see you in the next couple of weeks on the ice.

Whites Landing is in Ohio on the Sandusky Bay on Lake Erie. The bay tends to freeze early and there are springs in this area which appear to draw fish of all kinds. The perch can be especially large at times. I have seen people pulling perch, crappies, bullhead and carp out of a 50 ft area. The springs are about 1/2 a mile or so from shore and there are several of them. If you go there be careful because the springs draw fish but they also erode the ice from below. Almost everyone I know has gotten at least a boot full of water here.

The springs off Whites Landing can produce some great catches of slab Crappie. I used to live there and fish it all the time. You are right about the ice though. It can be 8" in one area but only 1" around the spring itself.
For those unfamiliar with this area, Whites Landing is on the east side of Sandusky Bay. You can get there by taking Rt 6 north from Fremont or south from Sandusky. It's only about 4-5 miles off of Rt 2 at the Bay Bridge location. When you get to Whites Landing, you'll be right on the Sandusky Bay. Just look for the fisherman/shanties.
If the ice off Whites Landing is unfishable, you can always ice fish for perch over by the bay bridge or even steelhead in Cold Creek which is usually open water.

Went out ice fishing last friday (Dec 15) off of White's Landing. The ice was about 5" and 3" around the springs. We went out to the first spring. There were 7 of us in the area, and about 150 nice perch caught. Most in the 10" range, with quite a few pushing 12-13". The 10' mark around the springs seemed to produce well. Deeper: no good. Shallower: no good. Some really nice 14" slab crappies were also being caught. THere were a lot of baitfish and shad in the area. Made a call today, and the rain didn't affect the ice. Planning on going back up in the morning.
How do you rig up when fishing for the crappie small ice jig & minnow ?
Bob, that is how I did it. I am hoping to get out Friday and I will post how I did.

Just a minnow on a hook with a splitshot up the line seems to work just fine. I'm going Thursday. I'll post on here when I get home.
