Lucky enough to get a kitchen pass for Sat. to go fishing. Caught two suckers and managed to drop my knife in the hole :(!! So for my first trip to Antero, it was not very productive! Saw one group of guys with a few of those football type rainbows. I did not see many people with fish. Is there a specfic part of the lake or depth that is better than the rest. I fished on the edge of weeds and found myself in 10' of water. I was using small jigs with a wax worm and I caught the suckers with a sweedish pimple and some waxys. Anybody have an idea of what I did wrong? Thanks for the help!

Thats South Park! Sounds like you did everything right. Was it a clear sunny day up there? Those lakes can be very frustrating sometimes. I have been fishing up there for almost 20 years and nobody does well everytime out up there. If they say they do, they are lying! Go enough times and you will hit it right. I got a 8 lb Bow last spring on my fly-rod and I got skunked there three weeks ago.

I went up to Antero yesterday afternoon. Again nothing. Saw one guy with a limit and one went approx 7 lbs. I know they are there just need to figure them out. While fishing there, do you spend alot of time moving around looking for the fish? Or do you pick a spot and stay with it? I assume that the trout are just roaming the edges of the weeds in the lake. Also, someone mentioned to me that you must pinch off the heads of meal worms in order for them to be a usefull bait. Is there any truth to this?

I have my favorite places to fish, but the main thing is making sure your jig is out of the weeds. Are you using a wire strike indicator? Are you holding your rod in your hand? If not you won't catch anything! Those big Bows have seen it all. They can suck your jig in and spit it out in micro second and you won't even know they are there. Every once in a while you get a fish that is aggressive, but not often. I also reccomend using fireline or Power Pro. You can't afford any stretch on these light hitters. Just add a three foot section of 6 lb florocarbin so they can't see your superline.
