Thanks for all the advice on my first question. Now for my second. My Dad said I could stirp his for parts if I wanted. His is very new but hasn't worked for a few years. He said one day he looked over at the heater while it was running and it was actually flaming and the sheild was RED hot! He put a new thermocouple on and the same thing happened. So it got shelved. Whats wrong with it? Will that new thermocouple still be OK to salvage for mine? Old one should still be good too? Thanks.

Mattman, I really admire your determination in getting this thing fixed!! ;-) It is a true sign of a great sportsmen!
Anyway, to get back to the problem, I think that the regulator on your dad's is shot. So I guess swiping his thermocouple and replaceing yours is probably a good answer. First though, try cleaning out the venturi opening on your dad's heater. Either used compressed air or a wire pipe cleaner. This can solve the problem of a blue flame burner. The venturi compresses the gas before it enters the screen. Cleaning junk out of there will allow it to work properly again. I'm still guessing his regulator is shot, but it's worth trying to clean it first. Good Luck!! EE

Was the tank recently filled? If it was overfilled then you could be burning liquid propane instead of vapour. This would cause the glowing. If this is the case there is probably nothing wrong with heater. Open bottle upright in well ventilated place. If you see a white fog, The tank has been overfilled.

Your either burning liquid propane from an overfilled tank or the air mixing chamber (the hole) is partially plugged not allowing good air mixing before entering burner area.
The orifice for the gas is in the hole and should be lmost flush with the bottom of the hole or just sticking through.
My brother bought a new one and it would flame like this often and burned our eyes so we compared them and his orifice tip was sting through almost to the top of the hole. This is easily adjustable.
Hope this helps
