View Full Version : Minaki or Carribou Falls Canada
Our group is thinking of going up to Canada this year. We're debating between Paradise Cove At Minaki or Haily's at Carribou Falls. Has anyone been there and which place has the most consistant fishing for walleyes. We will be going up there the last week of August. Also, what are some good general locations, depths, plugs, livebait, etc.
Thanks alot for the info.

I have never been to Carribou Falls, so I can not comment on that.
But I have been going to Paradise Cove in Minaki for years. In the spring Gun Lake and the river is popular, but in the summer big / little sand and roughrock get the attention. I use mainly lighter bottom bouncers with a 5+ foot leader tipped with a leach in 14 - 40 foot of water during the day and troll cranks early morning and evening out in Big Sand. Every year depth seems to be a little different, and in many places if your < 20 foot of water perch are bait theives.
My best advice is to contact Duane ##### and buy one of his detailed maps that have his favorite spots marked. (he has some small ones for free to take out in the boat with you) Then if you go there check in with Duane on locations, depths and presentations that have been working. Duane is a very good fisherman and gives honest advice, but he doesn't stand around and BS for very long.
Each year we do better and better. Partially we know the area better and partially I think the slot limits are helping. Also, the boat ride from Paradise Cove to the popular spots at the north end of Big Sand or south end of Gun Lake are well over 10 miles weaving between Islands, so if you have a slow boat be prepared to be traveling for a while.
I like Minaki

OK RR.
Is RR for Roger Rabbit? RailRoad (boone),
Go look out on the Canada page, there is a recent posting about Minaki. They think it is crowded, and I have to agree that at times there are quite a few boats trolling around. But the area is big.
Thought you may want to know.

He does have a web site.....( so I have found out)
www.paradisecoveminaki.com/
As for it being crowded, I don't think it is. I have a cabin on Big Sand Lake & can't say I ever seen a "big crowd". Yes, when they are out cranking there can be a few boats but don't forget that the area has 5 big lakes & the winnipeg river system.
The water system has tons of room for all......
Good Fishen

I have been going to Minaki for 16 years straight. I would not even think about staying anyplace except Paradise cove. I already have my reservations for 2001. Last year 16 of us went and loved every minute that we were there. Duane and his people are the GREATEST, they make everything so nice and the fishing is fantastic.I travel a 13 walleye tournament trail and always take time out to make the yearly trip to see Duane. He is one of the top Walleye fisherman in the country and will put you on the fish. He always has his marine radio on to help you out. Don't waste any more time make your reservations NOW before its to late. If you want any information on the area and what to use, e-mail me and I will help any way I can.
Hope to see you in Minaki sometime.

Hi there, I was just checking out the walleye website and came across your query. I have a cabin for rent in Minaki that you can drive to and have a dock 25 feet away. The cabin holds 6-8 people, 3 bedroom, fully equipped kitchen, indoor bathroom, screen porch with BBQ. Fishermen have been coming to Minaki for a century to fish and hunt. When we go fishing we use a jig and minnow. My cabin is right across from Jack's Live Bait. Let me know if you need more info.
