I know we have a trolling plate on our boat. But it's only a 30hp yamaha. It has springs on it so that it automatically goes up when you "get up and go" I don't know exactly where my dad got it but it works great. Theres no stoping and putting it down or pulling it up. It works on it's own.

I have a Happy troller on my 90 honda. it slows the boat to .02 or so. and you can get it in the bass pro catalog. It works for me and should for you too.

The Happy Troller trolling plate has been around a long time and works great. I have one on my Evinrude 70 and a buddy uses one on his 22 ft. cuddy cab with a 305 v8 I/O. Check out Cabelas or about any marine supply.
I have used a trolling plate called Troll-A-matic
for the last ten years. Works great!!! It has springs on it and is automatic. As you increase speed the plate raises up and has the same effect as a hydrofoil. This unit mounts on your cavitation plate with 4 bolts. It comes in 2 sizes for small and large engines. I use it on my 17 1/2 Larson I/O . The product is made by a company called T & L products. I do not have the adress but you may be able to find them on the internet or ask at your boating supply store.

Trollamatic is only in some Cabelas catalogs,I have one works good for me on 24 ft boat except pushes the back corner up running fast and you have to adjust your passengers for it.Good Luck..Bob

Make sure the plate is not the one with the brass pins to hold it in place. If you put too much pressure or foget to put it up the pin breaks and you have to replace it. It's no fun leaning over the back of the boat in 3 footers and cold water.
Yuo can also try using two 3 or 5 gallon buckets on shortropes -2'- 3'. Drill 6 holes, 2 on bottom and two on eah side all in line. Weave the rope through starting from the outside. Tie a snap hook on and attached to tie down rings on back of boat. This works very well and is very cheap.
I did find that the trolling plate I used reduced my top end speed.
good luck
