Saw one at Bass Pro the other day. Weighs less than 2 lbs, takes 8 AA batts instead of the lantern batts. 400 watts. Looks
like a real nice unit for fly-ins and portages. Anybody try one yet?? Looking for feedback.

I guess it's a brand new product - probably too new for anyone to have one before the hard water season.

I've used my Boundary Waters LC-10 for two seasons now and I am a big fan of it. I've taken it on two 17 day solo canoe trips in Ontario's Quetico Provincial Park, as well as a few other shorter trips. I also use it on canoe or kayak fishing trips in carry-in lakes or small rivers.
Its primary benefit is its small size and its battery efficiency. A few years ago I looked at all the sonar options for canoe fishermen and this unit was far and away the winner. In each of those two longer trips I have only had to change the batteries once--eight AA batteries a time. And I have run it for 6 to 8 hours per day on these trips. When you are carrying everything on your back this makes a big difference!

BradB-
We are thinking about using it on small(14ft-9.9hp) boats on fly-ins, do you think the suction cup system will hold while on plane? I've got an old model HBird and it has held(mostly).
Thanks fer the input and glad you had positive comments. When did you get yours? I thought it is a new product.

I've had good success with the suction cup mount. But as it is a suction cup it will never be 100% reliable. If I were you, I would bring along extra plastic suction cups in case some were lost. Also, it depends on the surface that it is stuck to. I've not had a problem with my ABS canoe or kayak, nor my kevlar canoe. I don't know about once-painted and scraped aluminum or any other material.
That graph under the Vexilar name has been around at least two years. I bought it from Joe's Sporting Goods in Saint Paul, Minnesota. I know that a very similar device existed under a different name as a friend in Duluth had one.
Check out what they have to say on the Vexilar website: http://www.vexilar.com . I've always had very good luck with Vexilar and love my FL8. I just purchased a re-conditioned Edge for my big boat and am looking forward to using it.
Re-conditioned product can be purchased at: http://www.vexilar.com/direct/rec-disc.html I just checked and a re-conditioned LC-10 is just $229.
Good luck,
Brad

If I didn't love my FL-8 for V-jiggin, I never would be considering this one. I have the same concern about the S-cup while on plane all week on a fly-in. Will bring back-up if I get it - which I think will happen.
Glad you like the way it marks and the length of service of 8 little batts. It just seems like a great product for up there.

I have no experience with that particular unit, but I have been bringing one type or another on fly-out trips for several years. I have had bad luck with the suction mount attachments for the transducer. (It can come loose and then the prop can cut the cable...)
I bring a small board, a C-clamp, a screw driver and some duct tape. It's a good idea to drill your holes in the board before going on your trip. That way when you are ready to mount the transducer to the board, the screws go in more easily. I use the duct tape to tape the cord to the board and keep it out of the way. The C-clamp is used to fasten the board onto the transom of your little boat. This has worked well for me...
