View Full Version : advice please for catawba ice fishing rookie
Will be up Saturday for my first Erie ice fish.We hit it hard in the summer. Is it possible to get some action without walking out 2 to 3 miles. Taking son out. Long walk might be too much for him. Would 1 mile out be a waist of time? Perch or walleye, doesn't matter. Just want a little action for the boy. Any advice on lures and ice conditions would be appreciated. Thanks

As far as I know, all the action is 2-6 miles out... hope that helps.

Joe,
I am NOT an icefisherman, but from following the board and talking to some locals around Port Clinton it sounds like you need to get out 2-3 miles at least to go from Catawba. You may want to check the reports for "White's Landing" which is somewhere on Sandusky Bay. Should be a shorter walk for you and your boy.
Good Luck

You should be able to get in on "some" Perch action just off Catawba, with a "chance" for a Eye.

Hire a guide and they will take you out. and you and your son can be warm and comfortable...

WHERE CAN I HIRE A GUIDE FOR SATURDAY IN THE CATAWBA AREA?
I live in Port Clinton and I know how spotty the action can be.
For the pleasure of your son I would recommend Whites Landing on Sandusky Bay. The Perch action their is more predictable and its a short walk. Whites is off of route 6 between Sandusky and Fremont.

Try Winke Guide Service. He has a web page that is linked to the lake erie walleye page on www.walleye.com search for catawba area charters. Pat has been fishing off of catawba for a few weeks now. good luck!
