Thinking of coming to Erie this weekend and was wondering about the ice conditions. I have never fished here before on ice, but do have experience on Saginaw bay. Are the conditions safe for ATV's or Snomobiles or do I need to walk the whole way? Also, If anyone has any advice on where might be a good spot to start I would appriciate it. Also I have noticed several people mention Rickard's Bait Shop-- Does anyone know their phone number? Thanks in advance.

Ice was in great shape this past weekend. Good for ATV or Snowmobile.
Go out of Catawba State Park and go towards the islands and find 27-28' water. Gold pimples #4 tipped with 3 minnies.Rickards is on the way to the state park also just down the st. is Herbs bait.Move till you find fish. good luck

Ice is at least 12" thick . Go Northwest out of Catawba State Park. Follow the path marked by Christmas trees or branches. If you get there around 7:00 or 8:00 a.m. you might be able to follow some of the guides out. Walleyes are hitting Little Cleos that are hammered in blue and silver. Pimples and Real Image spoons are working also. Be careful and good luck .

Rickard's Bait phone # (419) 734-2496 To get there take State Route 2 East till you hit Route 53 north which is the 2nd route 53 exit. The 1st is 53 South toward Fremont. After you exit on 53 North, Rickards is about 1.5 miles, on your right just past the stop light at Route 163. A McDonalds is on the left. Rickards is just across the street from McDonalds.
