I've seen the extra long bottom bouncers around, but have not personally used them. Does anyone recommend them over the regular length and what technique are they used for?

I used them once... They were ~4' long... Laugh if you will but the fish where hanging over some sort of vegetation and 18" ones wouldn't get the job done. This was the ONLY time I have ever used them but let me tell ya we where the only ones that could buy a fish that day!

I've used the "extra long" bouncers and thought they were a pain. So I came up with a different technique. Take a regular bouncer, cut off the top connectors, then put a loop in the wire at the very top (or just cut the part off that goes to your leader) then connect it to the dropper line from a three-way. The bottom bouncer still works better than a bell sinker so you don't get as many snags. You can adjust it to suit your bait and depth and they're alot cheaper and easy to store. Sounds crude but it wotks....

Dutchman, great idea. There's an easier way, though. DakotaMart's bouncers are pre-made for that--they're not the safety-pin type, but a straight-shaft model with a wire eye at the top. They're designed to be used with a sliding quick-change attachment or on a dropper line as you suggested. They're excellent, and priced right too.
Every walleye fisherman should have their catalog. You can get one thru their website. Though I work for a competitor, I really like their stuff.
Stay on 'em,

Who makes them? I could use some extra long bottom bouncers in weights up to 6 oz.
