Looking to plan an early June trip to Mullet Lake or similar impoundment for some walleye, perch, and smallmouth fishing. I would appreciate any recommendations or suggestions. Places to stay motels, campgrounds, bait shops, launch ramps , etc. We would be traveling from Indiana, Pa. Thanks.

There are several motels in the area, and there is a beautiful state park on Burt lake. The two are connected by a river so you can fish both. Fantastic area. Try looking up "Indian River"
MI for more info, or let me know if you can't find anything.

If you want to camp, Olaha State Park is on the North East side of Mullet Lake. There is a boat basin with campsites you can beach your boat right outside your tent. The site have electricity so you can also charge your batteries. When I was there last the beach was sandy and walleye would feed on them at night. You can take it from there. It isn't Lake Erie but you can catch walleye for meals. You can go up the river into Cheboygan where there are restaurants with docks. You can go out into the big lake from there also. Going into Cheboygan there is a lock for you to go through so remember to bring dosk lines and fenders. If you have children they will have almost as much fun as you will. Jus t be patient with your crew in the lock and not like a few of the tyrants we've observed when things didn't go just quite right. No one has any fun then. There is a little grocery store right outside the campground and a marina with gas dock west northwest across the lake. Contact the state park system and call as early as possible for reservations. We've been there twice and had a great time.

Here's another recommendation for Aloha state park. Great park with much to offer everyone in the family. Early June should be good time for walleye. Not a lot of big fish, but enough to keep you from going hungry. Try trolling with cranks/boards around the buoy in northeast part of the lake, towards dark and even after.
I was there last mid-July. Beautiful lake!! Friends stayed along the beach(kept our boats just off shore). Me and the wife stayed at a nice motel in Cheboygen(10-15mins away). She doesn't like camping. Stayed at Pine River motel. Very clean and adaquite ($40 per nite). Get a topo map off the website I will provide. This should help alot. (www.fishweb.com).This lake has it all. Deep dropoffs, large flats,a few weed beds, and a couple of navigable rivers. Have fun!!!

Mike, Thanks for the info on Mullet Lake. Especially the web site for finding the topo maps. To me that's one of the first keys to finding fish in a new lake. I'm really looking forward to giving it a try. Keep in touch. Thanks again.Lou
