I want to run Planer Boards but don't want to have the pole attachment. I've seen people run them straight off of their rods. I have a 6'6" Spidershaft rod w/ a 99' Shimanno Calcutta 250. Anyone help me on this one? Thanks and good fishing

I'm pretty sure you're talking about in-line planer boards. These are the type that connect directly to your fishing line (without using a mast system) and when you get a fish you simply keep pressure on the kine, reel in the line until you can take the board off, and then fight the fish.

If this is what you are looking for, I HIGHLY recommend Off-Shore planer boards. In my experience, these are the best tracking, most functional planer boards on the market. There is a link on the mainpage of Walleye Central that will take you to the Off-Shore site if you're interested in checking out their system. If you commonly fish in rough water you will probably want to upgrade the fixed clip on each board to an OR-16 (red) extra heavy tension release clip.

If you have any questions, feel free to e-mail me or post again.

Don't forget the Tattle Flags that attach to the Offshore Boards!

These are invaluable as they can alert you to:
- Improperly running baits
- Fouled lines(weeds,Zebra mussels etc.)
- Short fish or light biters

The Tattle flag also accelerates the learning curve on trolling multiple lines and monitoring your lines.
Use an 8'6" MH rod and a line counter and you're off and runnin'!

Tight Lines!
