Any thoughts about the best out there?

Seems like there was a discussion about these a few months ago, but my search comes up with no matchs which seems odd.

My memory tells me something with the word "Dog" in it and sold at Pro Bass was discussed as being good.

I have tried the Cabela's Snagmaster. It just does not work very well with any wind as you really need to get directly above the crank bait and stay there to work the tool.

I like the idea of the Snagmaster where you basically just PULL the lure out. The long arm retrievers appear to work on the principal of pushing the hook back out. On a tree/limb, I'm not sure that would work very well. Don't know if the long arm's have the strength to permit to using it to strong arm the lure out like the Snagmaster.

The hound dog is sold in Bass Pro and it works quite well it takes a while to figure it out. It has saved me 100's of lures.

Good luck,

I have a yellow retriever that I think I bought from BPS. It has little chains that hang down and tangle in the hooks. It has saved me hundreds upon hundreds of dollars.

The Hound Dog lure retriever is available at several place, BPS is probably the most widely known. My Hound Dog has saved my hundreds of dollars also. It's not perfect and you do have to be almost right over a bait to get it out. There have been times, however, when the mere mention of using the Hound Dog caused a snag to release my lure. Other times, you have to actually get it ready to use and wave it around and sometimes you'll even use it. It works best with two people, but at $4.00 for an inexpensive crank, it's worth it. When we're pulling 6 boards in the stumps, the Hound Dog stays in storage. I have mine on an old Sweedish pimple wood rod that has dowels for wrapping the line. My buddy has his on an OLD level wind reel on the stump of an old baitcast rod.
