Discounted rods?

I need a couple of new Shimano Stradic reels. I see both Cabela and Bass Pro running a $150 special "combo" with a Stradic and a $100 "house brand" rod, which basically gives you the rod for $35. Are these rods worth $35?

Well....maybe. Just be a careful shopper. If it is teemed with a rod that lists separately elsewhere in the catalog you can read more about the rod that is going along with the reel. Cabela's sometimes includes a rod (for instance Cabela's Classic) that you will not find listed separately. This I would stay away from. In the case of Bass Pro, I think it is a Pro Qualifier rod. My brother bought one of these last spring and loves it. Great deal for the money. If you will be fishing anytime where the air temp is lower than 32 deg F. think twice about the Stradic. Shimanos don't like really cold weather.

Hans, I bought one of their XPS Trigger rods and Extreme Baitcast combos last spring. Usually the rod is $90.00 and the reel $70.00. I bought the combo for $100.00 and the rod alone was worth it. I have compared that rod to alot of trigger sticks that are alot more expensive and I like the XPS better. The reel was o.k. and now is used to pull bouncers.
