Aurora:
I seem to prefer a little bit longer rod for bottom bouncing with a soft tip-telegraphs more through the rod and lets me feed a little slack to finicky fish. Also, holding a pistol grip rod all day is very tiresome and doesn't work if you ever need to put the rod in a holder. I am currently using the Roach series bottom bouncing rod from Berkley- a little over 6' long with a straight handle- and have been very pleased with the peformance. Teamed with a Abu-Garcia TP3000 reel, which has a flipping switch, it makes a great combo. Also doubles as a casting rod for throwing cranks.
