Ezmarc- Just got back from the Maumee River with Brian Thomas- Another Walleye Central Buddy. We limited out. The water was low so I put a few scratches on the boat but it was worth it. It took us a couple of hours to figure them out but once we did we were on fire. We would cast down current just south of the route 20 bridge with chartruse, quarter ounce jigs with a 3" twister tail just keeping it above the rocks. We would jig them real slow with the current doing most of the work. They would just pound it. The biggest fish we caught was 4lbs and all other were about 2lbs. Also caught a couple carp and suckers. Brian took them home for a BBQ.(sorry Brian) The cold front didn't hurt the fishing to much. There were alot of waders who had a few fish but I think we were one of a few boats that limited out. I had a great time and can't wait to get back up there. Thanks Brian for the great trip. It was a pleasure fishing with you. Ezmarc- were planning another trip two weeks from today and there is plenty of room for you to come along. Let me know if your interested. I hope this post can help everybody out.

Hey Tom the pleasure was all mine, I had a great time and will save you some of the carp B-Q. (HA HA). To whomever is fishing the River make sure you use 1/4 oz jigs if the current is not too heavy or your will lose a ton of jigs as I did. The fish were hitting like freight trains as Tom said. I already told the Boss (she thinks she is) that Im going fishing in 2 saturdays so Im good to go Tom either at the river or hitting the reefs.

Hey Walleye Dog, if I were you I would just wade out, we saw many people hooking up that were wading. I think a canoe may be hard to control with the currents, we had a 14ft boat with a strong Minn Kota trolling motor nad had a difficult time with the currents. Besides, the entire area we fished was no deeper than 6ft

Nice job Eric#602. Sounds like you had a good weekend. Next weekend I think I'm going to be tied up. Hopefully the following weekend I will be able to make it. How long do you think the fish will remain in the river? Do you think that it will be better to go to the reefs in two weeks?

eric- just wondering about the sandusky river. i went to school at UT and have been fishing the maumee the past four years (with some unbelievable fishing), but now I moved back home and the sandusky is right nearby my work. Is north of the railroad bridge the only good spot early? Can you fish by the water treatment plant farther upstream? Any good bait shops? Any help or advice from anyone would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Tom, Glad to hear you got into them this weekend!
My weekend pretty much sucked, my computer went down, I had car trouble and my teenage sons were being teenagers. Needless to say I didn't get out. Now it is in the teens and I have to work, but I'm going to play hookey at work later in the week and try Erie again.
I never have gotten into river fishing even though I only live 5 minutes away from downtown Fremont. Seems that I'd rather pull my boat for 30 minutes each way to the lake.
See you on the water!

Great White, Check out Bernie, at Anglers Supply, on Howland Street, behind the Famous Recipe chicken place on State street, east of the river. He's a super guy and has decent prices and good info.

ezmarc, I to only live 5 mins. from the river on the eastside by the park. We should get together and talk some fishing. Greatwhite, the fishing is best close to the bridge by the parking lot. and there are some other hotspots just depends on water level and progressing of the run. Let me know and I could meet you down there some evening and show you around. I ussally go down every evening after work til the boat is in the water.
