would love to help but I would be more helpful if you let me know what part of the river you are launching from. If it is at the mouth down to the ambasador bridge I may be of some help.
waiting to here from you, Wally.

Since you're going on a Saturday, finding the "spots" won't be difficult. Simply look for the flotilla of boats. If you launch at the lower end of the river, you'll pass the infamous Trenton Channel first - a decent spot, though not my favorite. Lots of crowds, lots of snags - but oftentimes lots of fish. Upstream from there the Wyandotte, Ecorse, Fighting Island area is good. This stretch of the river is much, much deeper (25-40 feet) with much less snags. Heavier jigs are preferred here, 1 oz. is not too big. I expect the water will remain clear through Saturday, so vertical jigging is tough to beat. You didn't mention what kind of rig you'll be in - some sort of positioning motor is a must to remain vertical.

Hey? Isn't the PWT down at the Detroit River this weekend? I wouldn't go NEAR there, if this is so, with someone that wants a "lasting" memory of a first time trip!! The amount of boat traffic from all that have discovered our AWESOME fishing here in Michigan would be way to much to handle. Take her on a quieter time for a better time.
I will say that fishing the Detroit River(especially the Trenton area) seems to bring out rudeness in a usually mellow group of anglers. Courtesy and consideration are set aside, quite often, for the pursuit of Marbleyes. Be courteous and don't do to others you would not wish done to you..
With that said: Let's Fish! See ya down there Monday afternoon!
