I'm planning on braving the rain/snow this weekend to drop the boat in the mississippi near red wing. I'd like to know if anyone could fill me in on the which boat landings are open and how the fishing has been. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

I was one of the idiots who just happened to go this pass weekend. Baypoint park was still iced in so you need to go to 63 and go into Wisc. fishing was slow and the fish seem to be in the deep trough areas near the dam.I caught a few walleye along with sauger. Biggest fish was a 22". Good luck

Rain, snow, sleet, it won't matter, you better get there REAL early if you don't want to wait an hour at the ramps. The Wi. channel ramp is open, so is Everts, ($7.00, but is well mantained). I fish Red Wing at least two days a week, usually three, but I avoid it on the weekends. I figure those of you without the good fortune to choose a weekday don't need me there. The fish up at the dam are deep(30-70'). Mostly small saugers. Because they are that deep, plan on keeping what you catch, they're going to die anyway! Not only that, you'll probably have a tough time getting your boat up there with other 250 boats. Go south. Hay creek, (check your Hotspots map), is good place to start a drift south. We've been picking up a lot of nice fish from 20-30' on 3/8 jigs, powergrubs, with or without a fathead. Drift past the teepee to the end of the rip rap. Depending on how many boats are there, we've been pulling three ways and cranks back up to Hay creek. Catching as many fish that way, but not any more than jigging. We've only been catching an occasional Eye, (couple a day), but they have been nice fish. There are plenty of eater size saugers, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, let the pigs go! Hope that helps. Good luck. Keep it vertical.
